small tube combo + distortion pedal = good?

Re: small tube combo + distortion pedal = good?

The Vox's are very good amps with some great tones and cool features. Used to sell a ton of them when they came out. I really was impressed with the blackface and the marshall models. The XL's sound even better as you get a much nicer speaker even in the entry level models though I've not tried that one.

They however did not impress me as much when it comes to the recto stuff, just not the same tightness and sound. Excellent for hard rock, metal and thrash styles but I wasn't feeling the modern metal tones as much from it.

I know the XL tweaked things a bit but if that really changed things I don't know. The L6 stuff just excels at doing the recto thing though. Again I'm no L6 fan per say but for high gain recto type stuff they've always had it down.

Modulation stuff works pretty well with even modeling amps so you should be fine in that regard. Its just dirt pedals that usually don't play as well with digital due to the fundamental difference in how clipping occurs.
