Small tube combo for bed room jammin

Ok, I've lost my Peavey Bandit 112 Combo (good ridence) that I used for bedroom jammin and I'm in need of a tube replacement. It needs to have an awesome gain channel (I perfer the Amps distortion over pedals any day), 12" speaker, Headphone jack/record out, 30 watts would be fine but no more than 50. I'm looking at a Mesa F-30 right now and hope to play one this weekend. Other considerations are a Mesa Nomad 45, Mesa .50 cal, Peavey XXX, and ?

I've been pretty patient waiting to find a replacement combo, but now it's gone and I'm in a bit of a hurry:smack:

Look into a Carvin Belaire 1-12.

Re: Small tube combo for bed room jammin

I have never personally found a good small tube amp that is suitable for the bedroom that has an "awsome gain channel".

I say, a Line 6 Pod XT and an Atomic Reactor would be a good way to go.

Re: Small tube combo for bed room jammin

I only do bed room level stuff and I couldn't find a good tube amp that would fit the bill. Even my 6 watt Fender Vibro-champ got too loud. I think 30 watts is going to be over kill. If I were you I would look at some of the Tech 21 stuff or the hybrid Vox stuff.

Of the ones you listed, the F-30 is the way to go. These are great sounding little amps. There's enough power to gig with this amp--unless you're wanting clean tones at skull-crushing volumes. Add a 112 extension for even more coverage.

If you have the $$$$, try the Lonestar Special with its 5-15-30-35 adjustable power.

All the Boogies that I have played through were LOUD and didn't sound good at a low setting, unless they were set clean.

I would look at a 5 watt tube amp or a modeller, especially if you aren't gonna gig with it. Good luck in your quest and try out all kinds of stuff.

Re: Small tube combo for bed room jammin

Tech 21 stuff will do it I think!

+1

I have a Tech 21 TM60 and it's an excellent little amp. Check out the TM30 and TM10 too as they may be sufficient for your needs.

For low volume playing SS beats tubes IMO. :outahere:

Re: Small tube combo for bed room jammin

I played the F30 a few times and I liked it. If it's too loud, consider getting either an attenuator (such as a hotplate) or going the modeling amp road.

Re: Small tube combo for bed room jammin

The TradeMark 10 is history, but the TM-30 is very close to being the same amp. Great through headphones, and really good for a 10" speaker in a small box... With 12" speaker in a decent cab it's an amazingly flexible little amp.

I knew someone was gonna say that. After playing the Peavey combo then going to my Tube half stack at band practice I just wanted to come home and shoot that damn SS combo. I am however gonna try a few Line 6/Vox Valvetronics combos when I jam the F30. Today I hope.

No gigging with it, Just jammin out tunes and recording. I'm old school and like the idea of a tube amp with 2 channels and a V30 speaker.

After this buy I'm gonna be looking to replace my Half stack with a Tremoverb, Nomad or ? 2x12 combo for gigs. Buts thats gonna be awhile yet.

And thanks for all the Boogie input Bill. I played a .50 cal combo which was sweet, but too loud and clean for my needs. Great amp, but I think the F 30 will give me the gain I want. I'm gonna jam one today with one of my SG's at GC.

Hold on . . .

. . . 30Watts of tube power as a BEDROOM AMP ???

I have a Fender Blues Jr. (15W) that i use in a 16ft X 25ft room (w. very high ceilings), and that amp is Wayyyyyyyyy to loud for even that size room - PERIOD !

Are you sure you want such over-kill for bedroom-usage ?

Re: Small tube combo for bed room jammin

Oh, and another thing . . .

. . . you will have your work cut out to find a valve amp w. headphone jack !!!

I'm sure there are, but i know of none, except for the new Fender "recording-amp" that has a built-in attenuarrrr-thing too !

GOOD LUCK !

+1 my classic 30 can make your ears bleed even half-way up -- you might want to look at something really small -- the epiphone valve jr heads are getting good reviews, and are really cheap, and you can use just about any kind of speaker

Re: Small tube combo for bed room jammin

The only tube amp that would even be close to suitable for bedroom useage is a ZVEX Nano head and truth be told you'd be amazed at how loud that little half watt beast sound into a cab...it blew my mind!
