Snarling Dogs Brain Picks

Re: Snarling Dogs Brain Picks

I used to use them quite a bit-haven't ina few years.

they are Nylon- so you can expect it to be more "clucky", and less high end on the attack. Good picks, last quite a while, stay in your hand, but they def suck away some treble to the tone.

Re: Snarling Dogs Brain Picks

Yeah, they are kinda plastic-y, but they do grip well. They were my main picks for awhile until I totally went to a different style and started using Jazz III Ultex and Stiffos.

Re: Snarling Dogs Brain Picks

they're more of a novelty than anything to me. they grip to hard for me to be comfortable with them, and the gripping would get caught on the strings causing this weird scraping noise.

Re: Snarling Dogs Brain Picks

Too much grip for me. I ground off the crosshatching on one side (the finger side) now they're ok (crosshatching remains only on the thumb side).

I never liked Gator Grips. They were actually slippery in my hands.

I find it interesting that the Brain picks are kind of similar to the Made in Germany Herdim Standard picks made famous by The Edge. The Herdims differ in that they have the bumps out to the very edge of the pick. Also, the bump pattern is a lot tighter on the Herdims, which causes them not to grip as much. But anyway, that scraping sound you are referring to is a crucial part of The Edge's sound. Paul Gilbert also intentionally goes for a scraping sound, however, I'm not sure what picks he uses.

As do I- I LIKE the pick attack, I want to hear every bit of it. Got that I guess from Schenker (who used the herco grey picks )For that sound, any kind of nylon picks rock.

Re: Snarling Dogs Brain Picks

I used to use the orange ones and loved them but then the store that sold them by me closed. Now I"m back to my Dunlop Tortexs

Re: Snarling Dogs Brain Picks

I have no problem with tortexs I was just curious. I'm one of those people that can never decide about stuff. I don't really like nylon picks though, so maybe tortex is where it's at for me.
