so basically im pretty sure i want a rockerverb for metal, it just sounds sooo good, actually got to try one in store yesterday and really liked it, but since i like in canada we dont have any guitar centers so i really couldnt play the amp louder then 1.... so basically im wondering whther i should buy a orange rockerverb 50 mk2 with a orange 212 with v30s or a rockerverb 100 with a 112.... idc about clean channel breaking up or watever... i just need it to sound amazingly good at loud ass volumes and project it self like hell on stage and while jamming... also my rythm guitarist needs an amp aswell, i was thinking a peavey 5150 mini, he wants a scooped sound, will my rockerverb cut through the mix? also just so u know my drummer is insanely loud :( especially with his annoying meinl extreme metal cymbals that piss me off....

50w is definitely loud enough for any application, unless you're playing in stadiums. If you want to push it, it could still be too loud for practice. Oranges are pretty thick, more rhythm oriented, but with a boost you could definitely get a good lead tone.

Just tell the store owner.
You want to Buy one of those 2 amps...but you need to play both at 7/10 for 10 minutes on each one. If he cannot accommodate you after closing one day...find a better store.
good luck

Re: So about 50 watt amps vs 100 watt amps

The only thing the 100 watt head will be better for is clean stuff or if you push a lot of low end. And even then, the utility is debatable.

Re: So about 50 watt amps vs 100 watt amps

A dimed 50 watt is too loud for just about any sized bar. 100 watts dimed doesn't seem much louder.

Re: So about 50 watt amps vs 100 watt amps

The difference between 50 and 100 watts isnt about volume is about the sound and headroom. If you can run a 50 watter loud with a 2x12 you can do the same with a 100 watter. No one here can tell you which of those amps you will like better you need to find a way to try them. If you are serious about buying and let them know it they will make accommodations for you. If they wont they dont want to sell their amps very badly. Ive generally had good luck going in in the morning when its slow and asking.

Re: So about 50 watt amps vs 100 watt amps

ik... never buying from that store ever... he wont let anyone play at that volume ever ever ever... ive been to every music store in my city and its all the same... my buddy urges me to go to guitar center just to try amps but i cant just make trips to the us during the year... if anything im gonna buy online and just see if i like the amp on low volume and hope it sounds good loud

Re: So about 50 watt amps vs 100 watt amps

well i idk if it helps, but im running a nazgul and sentient... pretty lead focused... and the other rythm guitarist has decided on a new amp as well... a randall rd45 watt head, hes running a kinda kirk hammett tone with a bit of a modern vibe, it has a mid scoop so it should be easy for to cut im pretty sure, its just keeping up with the drummer that worries me

Re: So about 50 watt amps vs 100 watt amps

cant go into during mornings... and trust ive tried multiple times, there iffy about even trying a guitar... the guy actually kicked us off the guitar, told us we only had 5 mins to play on low volume, then he kicked us (me and other guitarist) out of the store and then proceeded to play the guitar himself....

Re: So about 50 watt amps vs 100 watt amps

for my sludgy downtuned stuff I have an Orange Thunderverb 50 and it is perfect

the rockerverb 50 I am told does NOT have enough low end, even with a 412 for the music I play. you should post and search in the orange forum.

I'd prefer the 50 watt with 2x12 over a 100 watt with 1x12. I think anyway, I'd have to play them myself to know what I liked better.

Re: So about 50 watt amps vs 100 watt amps

Will he allow you to return the amp if it doesn't work for you? Some stores will do rental, and then apply the rental fee to purchase.

I think most players these days can get by with 50 watt amps, and I think you might be better off with the 50 and the 212, rather than the 100 into only 112. A comparable 412 would be best. When buying cabs, you'll want to look at speaker efficiency ratings. I do like the extra dynamic response of my Mesas in their high power settings (around 90 watts), but sometimes the dynamics are too much. One of my Mesas is a Mark III equivalent of a 150-watt Triple Recto, and the notes just explode out of it. I almost always use a slight bit of compression to even it out a bit. But there is something to the feel of a smaller amp. My Mesa Maverick 212 is 4xEL84 35 watts Class A and has the chimey quality of a Vox AC-30 (with more versatile tone and gain controls). When pushed, it gets that natural tube amp compression--very different than the big-bottle Mesas. I've used it at some outdoor gigs, with it sitting on a Mesa Horizontal Recto cab for a 4xV30 "half stack", and never had a problem with anyone not being able to hear me. So in many ways, it is more about amp "feel" rather than "volume" for a guitar player.

And your drummer needs to back it down too. He needs to learn how to hit with different strengths to fit different venues. Like guitarists, drummers get used to playing at certain volume levels. I don't like playing really, really loud--but I don't like playing really softly either, since the guitar can respond so differently. But I can get a good sound out of my Mesa amps playing softly, and it's not just the amp--it's technique, too.

And if he's bashing away on his cymbals, they can be particularly damaging to your ears. Get some ear protection, and consider getting him a plexiglass shield.

Good luck.

Bill

i always ear protection... and no i cant rent at all... im probs gonna buy it on ebay or kijiji used with returns... and for the cab its a orange 212 with v30s...

Re: So about 50 watt amps vs 100 watt amps

well im not looking for insane low end, im looking for tight low end somewhat... but i want good leads... im grabbing a nazgul for ultra clarity and tightness.... and have u checked out olas videos on rockerverb? that definitely has too much bass to my ears...

Re: So about 50 watt amps vs 100 watt amps

well there are a ton of types of metal, what type of bands are you going after tonewise?

I dig my 212 orange and tv50 for sludge so I am thinking the rv100 can do metal but more like in a stone sour modern rock/metal fashion. the slipknot stuff sounds pretty processed compared to my experience with orange.

Re: So about 50 watt amps vs 100 watt amps

You need to get your drummer to calm down and play at a reasonable level or get another one period endofstory. Band = group of people committed to the same goals of making good music and having fun.

I can just see this... "We're gonna play raining blood now... but you gotta play softly okay?" Thats gonna go over like new coke

Re: So about 50 watt amps vs 100 watt amps

Reign In Blood you meant ? I guess you have never played with a drummer that was louder then the entire band always and had zero feel for where his place is in the mix? If you aren't working together as a tightly knit team when you are playing then you just are doing it 1/2 azzed and lazily. If that gets you gigs and paid more power to you.

Re: So about 50 watt amps vs 100 watt amps

its tough to play fast heavy speed metal passionately, but yet at a low volumez?
