So, for the old folks: What did you crank on the boom box back in the 80's?

Like when you were riding the bus or subway. Or just walking around downtown.
I used to have an old Pioneer Slimline. 8 D batteries. I would go about my business after school with it on my shoulder playing something like this.

But you probably had a friend that was the keeper of the boombox. My best friend Len was the boombox guy. I remember lots of Prince, RUSH, DEVO, and Journey. That boombox was dragged everywhere.

I had a cool Sanyo in the late seventies & early eighties that started out playing all the finest disco hits while I was in Germany. By the time we came back to the US in 79 or 80 it was nothing but Black Sabbath, Judas Priest & the Scorpians.

Haha. I remember wheeling and dealing for a humongous boom box in the late 80's for my work van. This thing was HUGE & LOUD I don't remember what brand but it had a stacked dual cassettes on one side and a single cassette on the other side.

I probably traded him a $3,000 worth of albums at todays prices.

The list is long for me. Frequent players were Motley Crue, Van Halen, RATT, Def Leppard, Metallica, Quiet Riot, Ozzy, Huey Lewis, AC/DC, Hendrix, Santana, Megadeth, the list goes on and on.

Had a big old Sanyo double deck. Can't say I ever walked around with it on my shoulder., It just sat on a bedside table in my room.

As for what was playing.. Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, Ozzy, Dio, Rainbow, Scorpioms, UFO, Yngwie, AC/DC, King Diamond, Saxon, Manowar, Led Zep, Queensryche, Heep, Van Halen etc & underground stuff like Manilla Road, Liege Lord, Slauter Xtroyes, Warlord, Chastain, Hellion, Vicious Rumors, Riot, Malice etc..etc.. ( ie, nothing but real metal :D)

(and yeah,,they were all under the broad "Heavy metal/ rock" umbrella back then)

What's with all the love for Michael Jackson? Was it the EVH solo or did you guy's actually like all his stuff???

I had a Metal Hammer (the 'zine , way back when they were cool) pull-out 4 page poster on my wall that was a "dart board" with a pic of "Michael Jackson" as the "Bullseye". Then came circles with pics of all the other pop notables/worthies of the day ...Wham, Duran Duran, Tears for Fears etc. Anyone else have that?

I miss all the hate and intolerance of the 80's :D

That apart .. ^^ Nazareth, W.A.SP. & Triumph ...all huge favourites too :bigthumb:

Thrash came a bit later, w/ my faves being Coroner, Annihilator (first two), Overkill, Nuclear Assault, Metal Church, Exodus, Testament, Slayer, & many more \m/

Back in the 80's I was into Zeppelin, Rush, Neil Young, the Dead, Voivod, Bowie, Journey, Yes, Maiden, Pink Floyd etc. Oh, yeah, Nirvana. I actually heard Bleach before I heard Nevermind.
It wasn't until the 00's that I developed my love for thrash and Death metal.
