So has anyone put some time in on the new Marshall CODE amps?

I didn't think there was still a market for digital amps.

Re: So has anyone put some time in on the new Marshall CODE amps?

I just played one at GC today. I actually liked it better than the ID Core sitting right next to it, but neither sounded amazing. The Code would more than do the job for a practice amp though, and it's got me curious to A/B the big Code head against my ID head.

Edit: The Blackstar I compared the Code to was actually the smaller Beam model.

Kempers have a huge market, and they're digital...

Every time I see this amp name, I am reminded of that scene in Megamind...

I bought a 50. It was launched too early. The new firmware and third party tools with patch sharing improved it greatly. the speaker is a bit cheap and takes many hours to break in before most of the flubby bass goes away. It weighs nothing and sounds a bit boxy on the floor being close backed.

Having said that, I have a cheap 10 band equalizer footswitch that let me dial out the excessive flubber. Discovered there is a problem when you crank up the volume and the cone touches the baffle. Despite all that I really like it, especially once I made my own presets. The stock presets are for the tiny Code 25. WHen you factor in the resonance, presence and bass being set up for the tiny combo which is almost a foot smaller some of the flubber in the 50 is explained. Nothing explains why they dimed the noisegate in all the factory patches. Even on the clean presets it's often 6+ and all the nice picking dynamics and detail is cut out.

The new firmware took out some digital fizz and clipping and a bug with distortion when USB recording with hot pickups.

So it's quite good now but was launched to early with a lot of bugs. If you have time to fiddle it can sound really good. If you like mods a more expensive speaker can really bring it to life and you can fix the fart noises when you crank it. Check out the photo to see where the problem was before someone put a spacer ring in.

Thanks for the FYI.

I lost interest in these though after all the commentary on the Marshall forum. Doesn't seem to meet my needs. Still on the hunt for a decent low volume practice amp that takes pedals well.

Antmax, have you played around with the Jubilee model? Is it any good?

Re: So has anyone put some time in on the new Marshall CODE amps?

Yes. I'd take a Valvestate 8020 over a code25 unless Marshall has done some miracle upgrades since last July.

Re: So has anyone put some time in on the new Marshall CODE amps?

I had a code 25 , it was ok , but I really don't like small amps . took it back & got the 12'' 50, better , but not enough speaker, took it back , might try the 2x12 or the Head when available, BTW , by not enough speaker , = I am used to 4x12 cabs, just don't seem to care for anything less..

They are coming out with a new combo that has ten eighteens.

Re: So has anyone put some time in on the new Marshall CODE amps?

Every time Marshall tries to move away from what they do right, they fall on thier face. Haze, MGs, Class 5, The Marshall Fridge. Valvestate suprisingly was a win.

Re: So has anyone put some time in on the new Marshall CODE amps?

Have you tried the headphones?

Re: So has anyone put some time in on the new Marshall CODE amps?

Yeah, might as well close this one up. Lost interest way back

I'd rather pick up another Lead 12/3005 or Bass 12
