So I bought a Gibson.

Re: So I bought a Gibson.

wow. just wow.

Yeah - I gptta vote Seths for that. Or even Antiquities...

That said, I understand your Vox preferences. I also understand the Semi + Mega-pup thing.

Lotta win here....

Re: So I bought a Gibson.

Congrats! it look very nice.

Thank you Steve, I believe we aren't acquainted. My name is Glenn, I used to whine and moan a lot a few years back because I was still a teenager but now I do manly things like play british amplifiers and Gibson guitars. I like Fenders, they're very solid. I like Gibsons, they're very loud.

Thanks, I like hotter pickups in gibson style guitars.

Do not inhale. :smokin:

:beerchug:

In what ? ... the F hole ?

Yes.

Good looking piece man. I Love a high output pup in a hollowbody, but maybe for your style the 59 would be better. Whatever you decide to do, that guitar looks like a damn fine addition.

I think i'd stick to something similar, I like higher power. I remember that about the dirty fingers humbucker, it cleaned it.

Re: So I bought a Gibson.

\So far I'm having some trouble adjusting the truss rod, the neck has a lot of relief. At first I was a little worried but I realized I probably just don't have the right tool. \
you need the gibson truss rod adjustment tool. dont wreck it using something else.
Congrats on your new axe!

Re: So I bought a Gibson.

Congratulations. That's one of the best Gibson models ever made right there. Everything that's great about a 335, at half the price, plus they are plain tops (a big plus to me, as I think flame looks a bit hokey on 335's), and they have a back door (SUPER cool)! I kick myself constantly for selling my sunburst one about 5 or 6 years ago. The sunburst models were my favorites, and I WILL have another some day!

Those guitar do need pickup covers and a pickguard, though. And a gloss lacquer overcoat makes them look like a million bucks.

Re: So I bought a Gibson.

I dig the satin finish, it's aging nicely.

I think what's left for this guitar is a set of covered pickups, reflector knobs and sperzel tuners.

Re: So I bought a Gibson.

You know what would really make the top of that guitar 'pop' ???

A KISS Army sticker. Think about it.

Re: So I bought a Gibson.

In all the years youve been around here, thats the first halfway decent guitar I've ever seen ya with.

Re: So I bought a Gibson.

Now you have to learn to play that tapping run from Back to the Future behind your head.

If you send me one I'll put it on the back.

I almost took out a student loan to buy a ES-355

that's half the battle!

Did you know I owned a Gibson V?

Re: So I bought a Gibson.

Glenn, great guitar! Congrats. Love the satin finish on those so aged nickel covers will look perfect. As an added bonus, the quality workmanship on those older Gibsons is so much better than today's newer ones.

I know you're going to have lots of fun with that one. Don't get discouraged if you get more feedback with this one than your Fenders. You'll learn to get around that soon and even use it to your advantage.

that's why I love guitars like this! The warmth and feedback! It sounds HUGE! then again my jaguar is tiny

And yes, it's a very well built guitar. The moment I played it I knew I had to get it a decent case, so I bought this one by SKB:

the gibson case has a little lock that uses a 3 digit code, like a briefcase... the joke is that plate is held into the case BY SCREWS YOU CAN ACCESS FROM THE OUTSIDE.

this guitar originally came with a gig bag

Re: So I bought a Gibson.

thanks guys and yeah, as soon as i held the guitar and saw how the wood felt in comparision to everything else I've played I knew I needed a good case!

obviously I can't actually check my guitar in this case on an airline right?

Re: So I bought a Gibson.

Treat it to a seat rather than the baggage hold.
