Everything! Lol!!
Was checking out a bunch of guitars at guitar center last night
and I found out I like all the different wood combos! Lol
I was trying to see if I liked basswood more than alder
turns out I do like alder a bit more with a maple board. But basswood is a bit thicker and woolier. Alder has more punch though and slightly more attack.
Basswood is a bit warmer which I like on the single notes but if the neck is unfinished on the alder it does warm things up quite a bit.
Mahogany seemed to me to have the most harmonically rich content than any. Even when I used it in a Les Paul context or sg. I did like the Les Paul tones more than the sg however.
And the classic (yes it's classic anymore) ibanez basswood, edge trem and rosewood neck has a familiar tone and feel that I really do like.
I also really liked swamp ash with a maple board. It's a bit closer to basswood to me but with more attack and high end.
So maybe my close to perfect toy would be alder with an unfinished maple neck
crazy eh??
But I think the higher mids from alder won my heart and made me want to play more. Was most addicting with humbucker and even single coils.
I do however want to try a suhr basswood s4 with maple board cause he uses a 3/16 maple top which will add mids and make the basswood more lively.
Cheers!!
