So I've been looking at basses...

Re: So I've been looking at basses...

The Peavey pickup is their own Super Ferrite single coil design. Blade polepiece, two-con + shield wiring, yadda, yadda. The dimensions of the pickup and surround need measuring. I would not be surprised if there is an EMG, SD/Basslines or Bartolini pickup that fits the aperture.

EDIT - I remember a photograph in a Peavey catalogue from the Eighties illustrating bass maestro, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, holding a fretless Peavey bass guitar. This instrument was black with a rosewood or ebony fingerboard and the pickup mounted on a slant. It resembled the T-15 and -20 rather than the T-40.

I'd just like to point out that this peavey knob suspiciously resembles the 70s Fender Knobs I use on my guitars. Maybe they were going with a fender vibe?

Yeah but, of course, Tacu is too cool to need fret position markers.

So far, you are looking at an ash/maple bass guitar, screwed-on neck, single coil pickup roughly midway between the bridge and the end of the neck. That is pretty much the recipe for a '51 style SC Precision. ;)

I am confident that the Peavey bass is worthy of your attention and Dollars. With an American noise-cancelling pickup and, say, a stacked knob treble/bass active EQ network, it should be capable of most things.

You know that's the thing, I don't need much versatility. Remember that my last bass with a P bass... well yeah that IS pretty versatile, but still.

When I play a bass, i run everything on ten or flat if its active.

I run my amp completely flat as well.

To me, a bass is a bass is a bass. What it does is what it does and If im looking for a different tone, that means another bass. i dont treat it like guitars where i can swap a pickup and my jaguar becomes a les paul.

that said, what I've heard on youtube sounds fantastic.

Guitarist! :nana:

Bass is a state of mind. Bass is a function. Bass is the part of the music to which yo' booty gyrates. Maybe, Jolly was right all along? You shoulda been looking at asses. Check out how people strut their stuff in time wid da bass.

Re: So I've been looking at basses...

The Jag Squiers are pretty good, I like them a lot.

I have the VM Tele Squier, I love it but it is an unruly muddy beast so you really need to want that kind of sound.

My bass player has the Epi T-Bird and an Epi LP Special bass and they both sound great, the T-bird sounds massive and is a fair player. THe LP Plays great but doesn't have the bottom the T-Bird has. Got the bones get the set neck T-Bird and a pro setup.

A Peavey T-40 would be a great score.

Re: So I've been looking at basses...

Peavey T-15 or T-20. Good, solid MIA bass guitar. Peavey in-house pickup conforms to no known standard. The upside is that its sound is unique. The downside is that upgrading is either difficult or virtually impossible.

I cannot for the life of me remember whether those models were long, medium or short scale?

The T-40 is the Peavey to have.

They're long scale, and I got to hear one in a band for a while and it always sounded great. Bullet proof, too. They can be picked up for $400 or less.

No way, man. Peavey always went with their own style, love it or hate it.

So, cutting to the chase, you are looking for something inexpensive with which to make the low register rumbling noises on your home recorded song demos. How about playing your guitar through a pre-owned Digitech Whammy pedal?

Re: So I've been looking at basses...

Can you get the tone to sound like a passive thunderbird or is it impossible?

Hmmm... Well, never compared em side by side... But the pro and TBird have a growl that ive never gotten with my other bass. (by they way, im selling my Traben limited edition.. 1 of 100 ) And with this the pups are active, so you can shape the highs, lows and mids. ALOT of tones..

Traben?

St_G, is this what are you are trying to say?

:lmao:

Blah Blah Blah; it doesn't matter. You're not gonna buy any of them.

Yes, I will. I think I might go EB-3 because I asked around and a few people said it has less dive than the thunderbird.

I'd LOVE the ripper but I don't know... here's my local shop:

Re: So I've been looking at basses...

OK, I have one I want to sell. Red. Long neck, two pickups, Vari-Tone. Drop me a PM if interested. Unfortunately, I am in L.A., so you cannot play it first. I think it is a Korean one, not a Chinese one, but I will find out for sure once I get it back from my friend.

Okay, fair enough.

By the way, how are you enjoying your new Sheraton, PRS, Craigslist tube amp, Roland JC120, MIJ Jazzmaster, Marshall Superbass, and "hot chick?"

If you read any of those threads, you wouldn't have asked such a ridiculous question.

Exactly. Anyone who read Glenn's threads would realise full well that he didn't buy a single one of the items under consideration.

Time for another award?

I chalk up 90% of me not buying gear to the seller not being truthful to me. He says it's in good shape, when I get there it's all scratched, or its a fake, or I just didn't like it. With the exception of the superbass, which I'm helping a forum bro get his hands on, I've actually tested all that crap. The sheraton, the Mira, i didnt test the ampeg because the guy lives an hour away..

However, I NEED bass. Like I said before, it doesn't have to be a top of the line bass, but I just don't want it to be a piece of crap. I just want something with decent tone that isn't your typical P or J bass sound.

again, I like the EB-0 and EB-2... I'd prefer the EB-2 but my local shop doesn't have it. they might cut me a good deal on the eb-0 though since I shop there often and they know me by name.
