So Krank amps have closed their doors....

Re: So Krank amps have closed their doors....

I'm pretty sure that Tony Dow just formally severed ties with Krank amps and now Stiff Amplifiers will be Krank's competition.

Re: So Krank amps have closed their doors....

Yay! ^^ I think it's become cool to hate Krank. So I hope the brand really takes off again and makes the guitar forum world eat crow.

I just called that number for the water filter place. They confirmed that krank is officially closed. It sucks. despite alot of the hate i really liked the sound of my krank. I knew once Catero announced he left that **** was really hitting the fan there.

I would have asked them more about their water filters. Will they do Marshall crunch?

Re: So Krank amps have closed their doors....

Sounds like Krank are gonna be up against some pretty stiff competition!

Re: So Krank amps have closed their doors....

I have a hybrid amp, it's a Stiff Krank....

Is that the SST? I'm curious about those and how well they work for recording. I have no need for power amps (especially tube based ones) and if I can find one of those cheap enough I may snag one.

I seen tony post a picture of a hybrid amp he did for someone. Might be yours. I think it was a krank rev+ with a dirthead third channel added to it. The controls for the dirthead were on the back panel.

Re: So Krank amps have closed their doors....

There really is a hybrid krank out there. It was a rev+ mixed with the stiff dirthead. Two amps in one.

Re: So Krank amps have closed their doors....

are they open or closed??
Theres a lot of mixed rumors going around. I called the water supply place about getting my krankenstein repaired and the lady who answered the phone said krank was closed. Ive seen on other forums though from people who are allegedly endorsed by them saying they're still in production. Their website isn't up anymore, I cant get a hold of them by phone and their stuff is all marked down by all their dealers. I would say they're closed. Nothing official has been released though.

Re: So Krank amps have closed their doors....

I have a Kstein plus loaded with KT88's and it is just killer sounding, great cleans too.....sounds like a modern marshall should to me....very crisp and articulate, not the buzzsaw distortion like a lot of these modern high gainers....I have to admit that I didn't carefor them based on what I heard but once I got one and figured it out I cant find an amp that beats it live and Ive owned a ton of them in the last few years.I saw the Stiff amps and just bought a FIstpump last night,so Im curious to see how it compares...Ive owned the rev, revplus and chadwick and liked them all.....Im actually going to get another chadwick at some point, regret selling it.....glad to see there are some that actually like them...lol...most I see post hate them....they are hard to dial in,but once you get to know them they sound so room filling....almost has a CD like sound quality, but still a very "organic" tone....

Re: So Krank amps have closed their doors....

tony recently posted on his FB "www.krankamps.com has now been reacquired by its rightful owner"

Yeah they are hard to dial in but sound awesome once you find its sound. Most people hate them because of their instant popularity and the fake post by old employees. I really never cared. It sounded good so i got krankenstein and a rev +. Deff wanna get a stiff amp one of these days.

Re: So Krank amps have closed their doors....

Hey guys,
I was fumbling around the internet and found this thread. I've known Tony for quite a while and jumped in when he 'left' Krank and got into creating STiFF. Currently I own a custom (had tony remove the effects loop from the back and place the boost knob on the front - basically making it an 3 channel) 90-AD and a Fist Pump 100. I originally owned the first Fist Pump prototype, but loaned it to a 'friend' and he skipped town, but not before selling it on CL. If ya see it floating around, let me know. It's unpainted (Grey) and has Tony's signature on it. I'd love to have it back. Anyway, i can help answer any STiFF questions if you have any. Mine have been on tour, in the studio and countless shows. Glad to see there is more interest out there for them. They really are kick ass amps.

Ill keep an eye out. I seen two stiff amps for sale on ebay, but they were both the regular black. As far as stiff and krank goes. I heard tony is now back with krank. Is he going to bring back the krankenstein? Are they gonna be called stiff? or a new name?
