SO my relic project begins…suggestions?

What would you do - and HOW would you do it???
Beater Krammer for $99. Sanding, buckle marks, stickers, you name it - bring the abuse!!!!

- I already "aged" the switch knob by coffee soaking.
- Pick guard is scratched decently

some buckle rash and rash from the strap (think of dimarzio straps), with tools you have lying around... maybe screwdriver? not sure.

back of the neck with sandpaper (think of wear)

maybe burn of cigarettes on the headstock (from putting it there, just use actual cigarettes)

wear of the players arm (sandpaper, other scraping things, simulating bracelets etc)

Poly guitar don't check, and any paint flake type wear usually looks horribly artificial. Plus you've got a veneer on that baby by the burst pattern too.

You could dull the shine a bit on the paintjob, and also tarnish the hardware in acid fumes.

I bought an old MIJ body which had some relic work already on it.....dulled finish, the peace symbol and some sanded wear. I added to this by making the wear more jagged, like you see on old brittle nitro finishes, plus adding aged hardware.

Its not the best, but certainly closer to actual wear than it looked when I got it.

That was supposed to be months ago!

Don't waste any time, abrading the finish. Just play the thing lots.

Taking finish off poly from the forearm contour will expose the luxury laminated wood beneath. Before long, the guitar would be abrading your arm.

I have nothing against relicing at all either.
It just doesn't look good on a poly finish.
You will regret it. Maybe not immediately, but you will regret it. Guaranteed.

The pickguard and stuff look great tho. Why dont you try adding something cool like this:

That looks nice, I had a few of those 80's Epi strat copies with the pointy/banana headstock. I'd say this is the polar opposite to your Ace LP, right?

One of those green 3M/Scotchbrite pads will definitely knock down the shine on the body. Soak the PG in tea/coffee so it isn't so white. You can go nuts with the chrome hardware, soak it in Vinegar to tarnish it so it doesn't look so "new". (Muriatic acid works too, but will kill you if you breathe the fumes. Vinegar takes longer but is WAY safer for you to do!)
I'd get one of those $100 Mighty Mite "Strat Replacement" necks offa ebay, and age that instead of the pointy neck it has now. I have one on a guitar right now, it's straight, the contour is nice, and the frets are good too, especially for the $105 it cost me. Those have just a thin sealer coat on it, so if you want to age them it's a lot easier than something with thick poly all over it...

Do what daan mentioned, paint the body sonic blue and relic the blue off at the usual wear places.
