Yeah.

My suggestion is... "Don't Do It".

Re: SO my relic project begins…suggestions?

I'm not saying don't do it cos its a valuable guitar. I'm saying don't do it cos there is no way to do it on a poly finish that doesn't end up looking like you are an angry, hormonal 15 year old with a screwdriver attacking a school desk.

my vote is to replace the neck with a mighty mite like daan said and then (regarding the body) set that mofo on fire!

Fire/burns could be interesting.

Re: SO my relic project begins…suggestions?

I'd say put the neck on something else.

The body is plywood with a thick finish. It won't turn out well.

Paint black with orange plastics. Then stick a Flyers logo on there!

Re: SO my relic project begins…suggestions?

I really dig those "cheap" Strat copies by Kramer and Epiphone. They have, IMO, very comfortable necks and pickups that sound decent if you don't want to throw a set in them.

For a relic job though, I think a Mighty Mite/Allparts Maple board...or maybe search eBay for a Kramer neck with a Maple board...IMO, a relic'd sunburst would look better with a relic'd maple board than Rosewood.

But burning the body would add a cool look/vibe to the guitar. A trick that worked for me for weathering/aging the wood is steel wool in vinegar...let it sit for a couple of days and then apply to the worn/sanded parts on the body and neck (wood has to be exposed and raw.)

Cool project though!

Perfect either way then

Re: SO my relic project begins…suggestions?

Get an FMJ and put a round through the lower body!

Re: SO my relic project begins…suggestions?

Re: SO my relic project begins…suggestions?

take the neck off, and pickguard off, lay the body in the drive way and back over it a few times with the car...

Im not much into relicing,(sp?) but if you are try to do it as natural as possible. wear marks on back from a studded belt etc. Only thing worse to me than a reliced guitar is a stupidly artificial job. I laugh when I see these "reliced" guitar for sale where the listed sounds so proud of the job they did and they charge a high sum and the thing looks like monkeys beat it with hammers and chisels. Or they saw a chunk out. I know Ive had that bad gig where a bump the mike stand and knock that big v shaped chunk out of my guitar.. Gosh, I hate when THAT happens...
