so this is the cheaper Kemper?

Re: so this is the cheaper Kemper?

Maybe they're trying to make sure the power section behaves in a way that is super-linear under actual playing conditions.

+1
Lots of head room there.

I think $1K seems like a fair price - if it does what they claim.

Not sure who needs 600 watts, except maybe a bassist?
Looks like a very good design...If any of you know about the Impulse Capture technology that was used in GigaStudio sampling tech...This appears to be a design that can actively imitate whatever it hears...with literally hundreds of guys submitting their captures of killer amps, this could be an awesome product. When I was developing samples for GigaStudio the impulse capture part used to create room, hall, etc verbs was a tedious, complicated process.
The video of "Fluff" capturing a HiWatt 50 is lousy sonically but visually I could see the EQ curve captured looked very close to the amp's signature EQ.
At 17 pounds, I think I just saw my dream amp.

Re: so this is the cheaper Kemper?

Positive Grid makes some great stuff (if you have an iPad, consider getting the Bias apps: Bias Amp, Bias Pedal, and Bias FX) and as someone who will be in the market for a good modeler in the next few months, I might consider this.

Re: so this is the cheaper Kemper?

I'd maybe get one, it seems pretty awesome. I've never had experience with positive grid but I'm surprised that the demo of BIAS FX sounded better than Guitar Rig 5, what I've been using for a while now to practice at home, at least to me. Maybe I'll try to get my hands on one ....

Re: so this is the cheaper Kemper?

Some people must have an enormous attention span to sit around for days on end, tweaking these complicated toys, only to end up with a few tones less inspiring than a tube amp.

I recently acquired a L6 X3 Pro in a trade, and it's so complicated that it's more frustrating than inspiring.....and still can't beat the sounds I get out of a tube amp with 6 knobs.

I understand this all too well.

There may be some great stock tones, IDK. I am on the waiting list for a Fractal AX8 (admittedly not the same thing), and I have been looking through the 107 page manual online. I don't think I'll have the brains or the patience to tweak it so I'll probably have to settle for eventually finding the one or two presets I can use out of the 512 available. There may be something seriously out of balance in the price + potential applications to practical usage ratio for me.

It's like any other piece of gear. You have to e willing to sit down and try it and tweak to your tastes. I actually quite enjoy the process of building a set of tones.

Re: so this is the cheaper Kemper?

Since I made this amazing trade where I ended up with Line 6's best piece, I've got it propped up on an angled amp stand, plugged into my stereo power amp in's on a Gibson Goldtone 212 stereo combo.

Now the fun begins with the inch thick manual. I'm good at tweaking tones, and having the ear to make the patches authentic sounding, but man, this thing is deeper than anything I've owned before.

Google Line 6 Pod X3 Pro. Rack version.

Re: so this is the cheaper Kemper?

X3 hasn't been latest / greatest since Helix came out last year.

As as for tweaking, I have a bit of a different take. I'd rather drill down through parameters (esp on a computer editor) than deal with swapping tubes, adjusting bias, trying to find the right speaker/cab, soldering to mod the amp, etc. Different strokes for different folks.

I thought it was just about identical to the tone he was sampling but the original tone just wasn't really to my liking. There's a Pantera patch on the cloud that used Dimebag's actual studio guitar track as a source that sounds dead on.

Re: so this is the cheaper Kemper?

Maybe the high wattage is for stereo? Good thing as that as technology gets better, prices will be dropping. I used a PODHD for a few years, now a Fractal. But I am all for anything new out there.

Re: so this is the cheaper Kemper?

I assume its solid state?? 600watts..

Ive been wondering when other companies with be releasing their versions of a Kemper like system

Re: so this is the cheaper Kemper?

BTW, I don't mind the tweaking. I find the 'sound design' of it as much of an art as guitar playing- keyboardists are used to tweaking to find new sounds. And sometimes (well, most of the time) I am going for a sound that doesn't yet exist from any amp I have ever heard.
