So where do I unload this stupid Monster Cable?

A year or so ago a buddy of mine gave me a Monster Cable he'd had kicking around his house for a few years after he'd quit playing bass.

I have as much loathing for premium cables like Monster as I do old coffee, FOX News and American Idol...but a free cable is a free cable.

...and now it's a dead cable.....after a year of being used in my home and never leaving the premises.....yay...quality materials.

But hey...money was paid for a warranty...I might as well get my buddys dollars worth on the stupid thing.

Do I need a receipt to force whatever Cretinous retailer that carried these things to fork over a new one?

I fix my cables. Too many broken cables around to not fix them. If the jack is solid, cut a few inches off, re-solder.

Trust me homeslice.....you're preaching to the choir about the merits of making your own cables.

But my friend felt the need to pay the premium price so I feel kind of obligated to get what he paid for out of it.

Call a store that carrys Monster. Before I found out how mediocre a premium cable could be, I forked out the money for 3 Monsters- mostly based on the warranty. The sales folk assured me all I had to do was bring the cable in and swap it. That was through Interstate Music- just call ahead of time.

Screw Monster cables, save yourself some time and toss **** in the garbage where it belongs. That`s coming from a former Monster user. I had to many Monster cables go bad. I`d rather spend the money on cheap cables, no need to sweat the replacement.

i prefer to buy cables from a company called LIVE WIRE. They arent too expensive (about $20 for 20 ft.) and come with a lifetime warranty (NO RECEIPT NEEDED!). If it breaks then take it to guitar center and they hand you a new one. Easy as that and they sound great too (i could be brain washed into thinking more expensive is better).

I think you may be out of luck - a reciept of some sort is usually necessary.

I bought a 30 ft monster cable less than a year ago for use in my home studio. The bastard has never left the house & already sh!t the bed on me.

I've got a monster cable for monster cable right here!

30 ft. is a lot of cable foamy...

I bought a 20 ft. one and stopped using it just because i'm paranoid about signal loss from longer cables, so I just use 10 ft. cables now.

Currently using an Ernie Ball cable from my guitar to tuner, so maybe everyone should give them a try :13:

:offtopic: Anyone tried the Samson Armored cables? I think they might be great live as a backup for the wireless.. ;)

Wow, I knew Monster was overpriced - I didn't know they were so fragile. You'd think if they offered a lifetime warranty it would be because they have confidence in their product.

I was going to do a blind test of monster vs. store brand (Yorkville in my case) today, but since the car is toast, I'll probably have to do that another time.

using Proel cables for YEARS now. the cheap rubber ones are good, once you reinforce the solders, but the artist (i think it's the artist) series is great. about 15$ for a 30ft cable and i used it for gigs, lend it to other people and i walk all over it daily, never failed me in the 5+years that i own it

me likes to record live. Me singin' in one room, with a mic'ed amp in another. Any signal loss is fine with me. gives it a more vintagey sound!

Actually, I find most "premium" cables to be a scam. The whole notion that one company can make a cable that passes signal in a more superior manner enough to be able to actually hear the difference is, at best, insane. It's kinda like when one manufacturer made a VLB video card and tacked a fan onto one of the chips and claimed it would outperform all other cards using the same chip because it would remain cool. Of course, if it were one of the newer PCI cards, sure. But VLB cards never really had heat problems, or at least ones where it was so extreme that it would affect performance.

Like I said...I have no affection for Monster Cables. But someone along the way paid money for what I pretty much view is a warranty on the cable and I'm of the belief that it would be silly if I didn't make them pay out for what he spent.

Most of my cables I've made myself using cable I bought in bulk from MARS awhile ago and ProCo or Radio Shack connectors. They've always worked killer and over ten years or so I've probably spent less than $20 on all of it, and this includes wiring up several pedalboards, a small portastudio rig and pedal/amp set ups in my house.


Like I said...it's not that I like the Monster Cable....it's that provisions for a replacement were paid for and it seems silly to not hold the Cretins to it.

I have 2 Yorkville Cables that I've used for years without problems. Although I have resorted a cheap, unknown brand cable that is about 15" long. It runs from my wireless receiver to my amp. I even record wireless. It's so much better.

A Monster dealer found out I was a guitar player and tried to force one of their cables onto me... I have no use for a cable that's like $3 a foot... I have good ears and I can't tell the difference.

Voodoo amps cables. The best sounding and have Nuetrik ends. My friends and I use nothing else after many comparison tests.

Actually Live Wire isn't a cable company. It's Guitar Center's name for their house-brand cable, whatever factory they get it from. That's why you don't need a receipt. If it says "Live Wire," it came from Guitar Center.

IMO, the best cables are the ones with the lowest distributed capacitance. Our experience bench-testing a bunch of cables is that standard Mogami cable has very low capacitance. Of all the cables we tested, the one with the highest capacitance was Monster. The effect of high distributed capacitance is reduced treble response. Ironically, Monster has turned this into a marketing "feature" by labeling these cables "Jazz" for the player who wants to sound like they have their tone control rolled off.

Oh, those marketing guys.
