So where is that Tweak Fuzz mod? (Frankfablo)

Re: So where is that Tweak Fuzz mod? (Frankfablo)

I did not have an 8.2K resistor and could not get the R5 one off with my tools so I shorted R5 and put a 10K resistor on R4 and the pedal is much more useful now.

Re: So where is that Tweak Fuzz mod? (Frankfablo)

I've always loved the tone of the tweakfuzz, but just couldn't tolerate the volume drop. Now I'll have to get me one of those...

Re: So where is that Tweak Fuzz mod? (Frankfablo)

This may be Captain Obvious, but you can pump up the volume by using a 12V adapter instead of a battery or 9v wall wart.

Re: So where is that Tweak Fuzz mod? (Frankfablo)

welcome to the forum!

its ok to run some pedals at higher voltages but only if they are overbuilt to handle that sort of thing. dont know about the tweakfuzz. i use very low output pups usually so i dont run into this problem

Re: So where is that Tweak Fuzz mod? (Frankfablo)

I just wanted to confirm that this mod does work and it makes the tweakfuzz get nice 'n' loud. IMHO i think it should have came this way, but, to each his own I suppose. Here is a short "how-to" if you are mixed up with the details:

After you take to 1/4 jack nuts off you will be able to find R5 and R4 on the board.

First, get a grip on the resistor with a pair of tweezers.

Next, put your soldering iron on the solder that is holding the resistor in place(you only have to do this on one side of it). At the same time start to lightly pull on the resistor. It will pop right off.

Now, putting R5 back onto where R4 was is not as easy. If you are not sure if you want to attempt this with the tiny resistor, then you may want to get a striped resistor from radio shack. Worst possible scenario would be that solder fills the gap where the resistor should be. I was actually very worried that this was going to happen to me. Could someone more experienced with soldering comment on what to do if this happens?

Years later and I'm going to give this a go finally while the game is on.

Re: So where is that Tweak Fuzz mod? (Frankfablo)

its pretty simple and straight forward. I did it in about 15 minutes including the time it took to take it all apart and put back together. LOADS for volume on tap afterwards.

Re: So where is that Tweak Fuzz mod? (Frankfablo)

just posting to bookmark this
in mine there isnt so much a volume drop

with the volume all the way up the pedal activates at the same volume as the amp

so this mod will make it a boost as well?

Yeah, what a difference. Now this pedal is so much more usable. It can be a boost and now it does what I wanted it to do. It can boost my dirty tone for a fat lead tone. I've been looking for a fuzz that won't be all mud or only usable with clean amp. So far this seems promising.

Re: So where is that Tweak Fuzz mod? (Frankfablo)

ok just finished the mod
dang simple
popped off R4
inserted radio shack 8.2 k
used one of the cut off legs of the 8.2 to jump R5
danged easy

now volume at 3/8 full is the same as bypassed

and it just gets way louder from there

not really a "clean" boost tho
even with the gain all the way down it still crackles a bit

may be because its SO FRIGGIN LOUD

WoHOO!!!!!

Re: So where is that Tweak Fuzz mod? (Frankfablo)

Bump. Hey, I'm going to do this! What is meant by "Jumpering/shorting the R5 resistor? Is it just connecting both ends of the resistor to each other?

Re: So where is that Tweak Fuzz mod? (Frankfablo)

Either replace the resistor with a piece of wire, or you can solder in the piece of wire without removing the resistor. It'll achieve the same thing.

Re: So where is that Tweak Fuzz mod? (Frankfablo)

when I did mine
I took one of the that I trimmed off
bent it in such a way as to bridge over the surface mount resistor

any small wire will work the same

Re: So where is that Tweak Fuzz mod? (Frankfablo)

I did the basic mod described on earlier posts. It took me about 30 min as my eyes had a tough time with those little resistors. The mod works great.....it's a whole lot better, and I'm using it more now than my fuzzfactory, angryfuzz or merkinfuzz........

Yeah, I had to use the 10K also ( only thing at Radio Shack). Will this make a big difference from the 8.2k?

Re: So where is that Tweak Fuzz mod? (Frankfablo)

Can anyone tell me . . . I did this mod a while back and didn't pay attention to what the original R4 was. If I put the 8.2k back in R5, what is the original R4 value if I wanted to reverse this mod?

Thanks to any who can help!

My pedals are all in storage and I don't have a schematic, but it might be 470 ohm.
This pic agrees.
