Sold my last Mesa last night......

Raging BB Gunologist
Last night I sold my MarkIII and 4x12. It feels like the end of an era. It was a tough decision to make as I really liked that amp, but it produces a tone that's not where I'm at musically and therefore was nothing but a really expensive thing to set other things on.

I've switched over entirely to Orange now. They produce a tone that's where I'm at. The funny thing is that I hated the first Orange I tried (Rocker 30 combo) and bought the MarkIII instead, yet a year later I bought a Rocker 30 (the exact same one too) because I heard something in it that I desired, and 6 months after that I'm selling the MarkIII.

I don't really have any point or direction with this thread......it's just one of those things I had the earge to pass along.

Re: Sold my last Mesa last night......

Equipment comes and goes. Taste changes too. I understand that it's kinda bummer for you but in the longer the Orange stuff delivers what you want.

Time will heal the wound.

Re: Sold my last Mesa last night......

Good for you for having the fortitude to make a change. It's not always easy, but I hope it pays off for you. I hear nothing but great things about the Orange Amps, and love the clips I've heard. I'll be anxious to hear how you progress with the amp.

Re: Sold my last Mesa last night......

wow furst single coils and now orange amps, you are turning into a sissy! LOL :D

Re: Sold my last Mesa last night......

well, you have owned most of my favorite amps...just keep it tone in perspective of the overall picture and dont let the tone bug control your life...

I took alot of lessons to supplement the tone addictions I had & focused on other stuff too

Re: Sold my last Mesa last night......

Good luck with your new amp. I know where you're coming from. I tossing the idea around about getting rid of my 5150.

Re: Sold my last Mesa last night......

Change can be good. Ask B Bent! haha! :)

lol, but with him it's more like "I first hated amp x and bought amp y, but then I heard something in amp x that I desired and sold my amp y 30mins later..."

Well whatev, it's part of everyone's musical growth to seek changes and improvements, so why not.
Kinda like my neck pickup... I feel there's a change due once again ;) (or I could buy more guitars to fit in more neck pups)

Re: Sold my last Mesa last night......

We all go through it my friend, all the changes. I'm finally saying "screw it" and I'm sticking with PRS McCarties from here on out with my Shiva, they just fit me like a glove, I was stupid to try to break into gear that wasn't really my style to begin with.

Orange amps kick major behind, I would have definitely sold a Mk III for one so you're not alone :fing2:

Re: Sold my last Mesa last night......

Selling stuff only sucks when the money is used for bills. When it's used for more gear.....screw it....the game continues! haha

Yeah, but now I'm out of unused gear to sell and there's still two more amps I want.....

DAISY???

YOU WERE THE MESA FREAK ALONG WITH BOOGIE BILL

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?

WHAT WILL MESA DO? THEY MIGHT FOLD!

so now you are all Orange'd out. That's really not a far cry from Bogner or a good Marshall. I find Oranges to sound and feel VERY similar to my Bogner Shiva. I am a HUGE HUGE FAN of the AD30. I have experienced them live and in trials in the 2x12 V30s combo and been IMPRESSED beyond belief. They are like mini-100w full stacks in terms of tone.

Re: Sold my last Mesa last night......

Good ****! -singles and Oranges, eh? -sounds like a maturing ear to me!

I'm sure they'll do fine without me. I still think the Dual Rectifier is the best sounding high gain amp out there, and one day I'd like to get my hands on one again.

Speaking of Bogner, the two amps I mentioned in my last post are a Matamp GTL (or GT1...kinda undecided) and a Bogner XTC. Although I've come to really like the 'British' sound I've found that I don't neccissarily like the 'Marshall' sound.

Both amps are going to have to wait quite some time though.....I might be able to afford the Matamp next year, but the Bogner will have to wait until atleast late 2008....and that's assuming I don't change my mind between now and then.

Orange eh? After I get over my little VOXes and then I go through the Mesa stage, I might try one of those out. Expensive here though

Re: Sold my last Mesa last night......

Great news man!
You finally go the right way ,trust your ears and not the Ads you read/hear/see.
It's great to sell some equipment to buy a better one.

Re: Sold my last Mesa last night......

Hey man, its tough parting with stuff that you have got used to. I'm having to re-adjust at the moment due the purchase of my new marshall. Going from a DSL, high gain, channel switcher to the JMP single channel, low gain is a big change, but i'm learning. I think it will work out well, hope yours does too!

Re: Sold my last Mesa last night......

Hope it works out for you. I felt the sameway when I moved from my Marshall ... I was sick with doubt the day I sold it. But the Boogie 1x12 was what i was looking for ... it's nice when you find the amp and speaker combo that "does what you want it to". I think I'll hang out here in Boogie land for a few more years. :)

Re: Sold my last Mesa last night......

Tastes change, especially as you go from seeking the sounds you think you should have to the ones you really like. That's how I went from Koch and Soldano to Rivera and Two Rock. :)
