Soldano Mini Head

Not a bad deal at all for $250. Think of it like a good distortion unit for $125 and a 30w power amp for $125. I would like one!

I'd absolutely love a soldano head one day, but is it just me or does that look like a toy?

Pete Thorn had a great video on it, of course he could plug into a brick of cream cheese and it would sound amazing.

I have but one question: where in the hell was all this stuff when I was starting out and my choices for budget gear were a hotwatt headphone amp and a gorilla combo?

I sort of already have one...

Jet City JCA22H with added clean / crunch & bright switches and depth mod. It doesn't have the SLO / DeYoung transformer magic, but it sounds pretty much identical to my old SP-77 or a Hot Rod 50/100 Plus (with the added bonus of a clean channel). I picked the head up for $279 on super sale at Guitar Satan, and the extra $150 for the mods was totally worth it. Compared to the stock amp, the modded amp cleans up better with the volume knob, has far better clarity, and the taper on the gain knob is much more manageable.

Between the Soldano and the Bogner, it was a hard choice, but I am going with the Bogner Ecstacy first. Pete Thorn did a killer review of both. The Bogner definitely has that Alice in Chains vibe going on and is more versatile sounding. That's why I want it. I know these amps don't do clean and that's fine with me. I'll still get the Soldano later on. These amps do look like fun.

I like the Soldano more for what I do. What I like about these is that they are like a great little clone pedal and pedal-board power amp combined for cheap (albeit low watts), and with the handiness of being all-in-one. Perfect to sit on top of a vertical 212 IMO.

I'll be running it through a Marshall 2×12 cab. Should be interesting with pedals.

I kind of wish the Katana Mini had the speaker outputs and the effects loop like the other mini heads in this series. Even though I have the Katana head, I still play the Mini more. It doesn't sound like the head version and I prefer the delay on the mini. I can't seem to dial it the same as the Katana Mini. To my ears the mini sounds better. Weird. But really looking forward to the Bogner. Never played through one.

Those little amps really surprised me with how good they sound. I've thought about buying another one in white and running stereo myself. If the Bogner and Soldano sound anywhere as good I will be very happy. Should be close to the same size.
