I'm repeating what some people have already said but...

if it is a good les paul: ie loadsa mojo, great playing/feeling/sounding guitar that you may have some attachment to, the type that is tough to come across everyday then... keep that one and sell the amp.

If the guitar is ok but not all that special then sell it because the soldano is a cool amp. Once you have cleared your debts, then you can go on a hunt for an awesome LP

GUITARS:
2005 Eric Johnson Strat - I have had a love/hate relationship with Strats for years until I bought this one new in 2005. This guitar has all the mojo and vibe I could ever want in a Strat and highly doubt I could replace it.

1990 Ibanez Jem - A gift from my dad who passed away in 2005 - selling is not an option.

1998 Musicman Axis - A gift from my wife and used in many bands I've been in over the last 11 years.

2004 PRS McCarty Trem w/ Brazilian Board limited to 60 guitars for Willcutt Guitars in Kentucky - Tone to the bone and great Resonance!

AMPS:
1991 Peavey Block Letter 5150 -previously owned/used by Brad Whitford also from the first batch Peavey produced. Peavey does not have warranty documentation showing where amp was originally purchased by Mr. Whitford however the individual I talked with over the phone at Peavey believes that there is a strong possibility that the amp may be one of the numerous 5150's that Eddie Van Halen gave away as gifts to some of his friends and other name bands at the time. Unfortunately, I have no documentation to prove any of this other than Brad did in fact own and use the amp during Aerosmith's "Get A Grip" tour.

1994 or 1995 Randall BMF - Hard to find and a Great Amp!

2005 Marshall Silver Edition DSL100 Head and 412 Cabinet - I have been trying to sell this one locally due to the excess cost of shipping a 412 but have not had any luck and prefer not to separate the head and cab since it is a limited edition piece (250 available in the US). Plus I doubt I could get much out of the head by itself. This amp sounds great however the build quality is nowhere near the Soldano's but if I sell the Soldano this would probably become my main amp.

1991 Peavey Revolution Solid State Head - Great amp but not worth much.

Looks to me like the amp doesn't give you much extra but you don't have a LP type left.

I usually understand the guy. Here, I believe he was bringing up the importance of market perception, and how it can be difficult to turn.

I think norlin les pauls are probably the only ones I'd play, and I hate les pauls.

I played a 1978 custom with a 3 piece maple neck, large volute, and I loved the hell out of it.

I would keep the guitar, its more personal. you could probably score another amp on ebay, but good luck getting the same year les paul you had at a later date.

Its a tough choice, and you should make it yourself, without any outside influences.

From reading your posts, it sounds like you like the amp more than the guitar.

no dude...a PRS McCarty is NOT a Les Paul-style guitar.

That's like saying a Fender Jaguar is Telecaster-style.

Keep your Les Paul and sell every amp BUT the Soldano :smokin:

It is though. Ted had more to do with the design on the Les Paul after '55 than Les did. The only difference is that the McCarty got the cost saving wrapover Ted wanted back then but which Les disagreed with. A true Les Paul would have active pickup's and eq's. Like the guitars Les played. A modern Gibson Les Paul is as much a McCarty as a PRS.

Thanks Jeff! I have been spending a couple of hours each night with the Soldano and the Les Paul playing the guitar through all of my amps and playing all my guitars through the Soldano. Normally I would not hesitate to sell an amp over a Gibson LP but I think what is making it so hard for me to make my mind up is that the Soldano is the only amp I have ever bought that has not left me wanting more. I am not exaggerating, I have gone through so many amps within the past 8 years that even my wife noticed that I stopped looking and wanting to try other amps after I bought the Soldano! Before the Soldano "another amp" was a common term in my house and had been accused of being an "amp whore" by my wife and friends!

So...Yep I'm still thinking and contemplating. I definately thank every for their input and opinions!

No, that makes the Les Paul a McCarty-style guitar. It does not make the McCarty a Les Paul-style guitar.

I considered that but I honestly like the PRS more than I do the Les Paul or Soldano.

I also have considered selling the 5150 and the Marshall DSL100 1/2 stack instead of the Les Paul or Soldano.

With the amps, I'd sell the 5150 and DSL. 5150s are a dime a dozen and DSLs are nearly, if not more common, where as an SLO is fairly boutique.

...and honestly, do you want to have to run through a bunch of LPs sometime in the future trying to find one as good as the one you already have? Compound the problem with the seller's regret you'll have, which will fool your memory into thinking the old one was better than it actually was, which will make finding one even HARDER...

Sell the 5150 and the les paul... you say you like the McCarty more than both the Paul and the Amp, so they can't be that high up?

The 5150 is really just a SLO on the cheap anyhow from what I've heard, and you can run that DSL in stereo with the SLO ;)
