Yeah, I think so. When I first got mine a few months ago (:14:) I noticed the neck, particularly the around the middle sections of it, were oddly wider than my Dinky's neck, which is rounder.

The width was slightly disconcerting at first, but like anything given time, you get used to it. I haven't pariculary noticed the effect recently, but that's also probably because it's my designated main guitar, so I've become more acclimated to it's nuances I suppose.

The RR1 had a wide neck too, but it didn't have the noticable wideness effect the Soloist does.

Re: Soloist necks?

Well most the soloists have the nut width of 1.6875" and you can find the rest of the specs including neck thickness here

You can measure the specs of your charvel and get a rough idea.

Re: Soloist necks?

Most Jacksons and Charvels have a 1 11/16 nut, which isn't too wide. Where they do get wider is as you approach the body since they're 2 1/4" at the 22nd fret, as compared to 2 3/16" on Fenders.

I sold the Charvel cuz it was too wide..

I guess Id have to play it alot and get used to it, but I was bummed cuz Ive always heard how fast the necks are. And, the soloist has been like my dream guitar since the 80s. I guess it just isnt my cup o tea, or Id have to get used to it.. My dreams are crushed.....:eyecrazy:

Yeah, I wish I could tell you differently, but I can't. Also, the only thing, imo, that I've noticed that makes it's neck any faster is due to the quality of woods used and the perhaps the neck thru design; it allows all audible information to come through quickly and precisely, so you're able to complete your runs faster and with out any hesitation. The high-end attention to craftsmanship also minimizes bumps in the road, like very smooth binding and frets and a heeless construction. I think the finished neck helps a little as well, but perhaps that's negligible.

yeah, I hear you! These are things that make my WM526 a speed demon. Of course, Im not fast.. But the frets are perfect, the board is slick, notes are crisp.. It just doesnt have compound radius..

Re: Soloist necks?

Anything you say about a Soloist neck is true.

Unless it's not.

Re: Soloist necks?

They vary a bit from one to another, but they are a little wider than your typical 1 11/16" 25 1/2" guitar. Some of that has to do with the design and the binding.

Re: Soloist necks?

They would do a 1 5/8" R2 nut from the custom shop, but CS nearly doubles the price.

Yeah, I think I can do without! Ive never paid more than $1100 for a guitar (only topped $1000 once) and the Jacksons I want are running $1700-2700 now. So no way can I go custom shop.

They are still great bang for the buck as production models, you can't really get better quality off the rack.

I know what you mean about the CS prices, I would love one, someday, maybe......

Re: Soloist necks?

I would comment that the neck is generally thicker than Fender necks but for a LP player it will feel more like a slighly wider 60s profile. Still very comfortable in my hands but may not be for everybody
