Some crappy pics of my humble little rig

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
I was cleaning off some things so I took a few shots.

Here is my rig:

The whole enchilada:

My main sounds - Roland Cube 30 (usually set on 5150 model) My old faithful Korg tuner sits on top.

For more toneful moments, I turn to my Pro Jr. with Weber blueback.

And for acoustication, vocals, or minor PA duty, my Crate CA 30:

Some of my tastier pedals:

Stamps Drive-O-Matic (my prsonal two channel OD fave)
Diaz Texas Tremodillo (newer version w/ LED)
EHX Holy Grail Reverb
Cry Baby Stereo Fuzz Wah Volume (see funky pedal thread)

And the rest of the gang:

Digitech Chorus Factory (needs repaired)
Washburn Stereo Chorus (surprisingly cool sounding and survived the 80's)
Boss DD-3 (A faithful companion)
Guyatone VT-3 tremolo

Boss HM-2
Washburn Stack-In-A-Box (surprisingly I still dig this)
Ibanez TS-9 Reissue
MXR Micro Amp (old school without LED)

Zoom A2 Acoustic FX (for turning my Ovation into a Martin)
And the footswitch for my Cube

I used to have a bunch more pedals. Then I went Floorboard for a while until the early/mid 2000's. Then I went small amps and this is kind of what I have. Things change from time to time...but not often these days. I can kind of do whatever i want with these.

The real key to my sound - besides LP's & Duncans, is having amps all around the same size.

Re: Some crappy pics of my humble little rig

Nice rig! Thats a pretty good testament to the Roland that it takes precedence over the Pro Jr.

That's mostly a testament that I change my mind a lot and in tweek of a knob I can go from 5150 to Blackface to Bassman to Marshall to Recto. I've actually been playing the Pro quite a bit lately.

It has NO tonal mojo whatsoever over the Pro Jr.

The pro Jr. Just doesn't do Priest/Maiden/Dokken/Ratt/Kiss/VH all that well without some serious front end modification....

Some great stuff there. Looks like you have everything you need.

I share your love of the Cube 30 and the DD-3 - solid well-designed gear that gets the job done!

How do you like the Holy Grail? I have a Verbzilla - love the effects but the bypass sucks.

Re: Some crappy pics of my humble little rig

Nice indeed!
Good stuff all around....

Please...some tragic gear in there...

I really have a very utilitarian slant about my choices:

Cube + TS9 + Chorus factory + DD 3 + VT-3

That's some very workman stuff.

Now Diaz/Stamps/Grail....those are cool.

Overall, after I went floorboard and got rid of the big amps, I just really started gravitating towards the simple. I never really chased "mojo" tone anymore, preferring to turn the knobs.

Re: Some crappy pics of my humble little rig

Cool stuff there, man. Apart from your fondness for Les Pauls I really didn't know anything about your gear. Which is probably a good thing, since it means you're not constantly in here *****ing about how you want to upgrade every little piece of it, so it must keep you relatively happy. That's cool.

And you just reminded me that I got some of Fast Fret stuff for Christmas and I've never bothered using it. I'll have to dig it out soon.

Re: Some crappy pics of my humble little rig

Are you doing post graduate work? Or is that something besides a futon in the first picture?

Re: Some crappy pics of my humble little rig

Those pics are definitely crappy, and that rig is definitely humble

Re: Some crappy pics of my humble little rig

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that rig. If it gets the job done, it gets the job done. I dunno, I've never been much of a gear snob. I like what I like and other people like what they like. If those opinions don't match up, then so be it. I'd rock that little rig and have rocked similar rigs before.

I really want to try a Pro Junior out sometime!

I think you need to wipe the pocket scum off the lens of your cell phone camera. It's got that "soft barbara walters" look to it. Hides the wrinkles and turkey butt lips however.

But, what else would we have to talk about? I knew more about his firearms than I did about his amps and pedals before today.

Re: Some crappy pics of my humble little rig

Nothing wrong with little amps...

Unfortunately, over the years I've grown fond of the sound and feel of lots of air moving. So combos just don't get it done for me any more. Sold 'em all. Currently have one sealed-back 2X12 and two 4X12s. Even though much of the time I play them at rather reasonable volumes, I still like hearing the fullness and rich, deep base of the "wall-of-roar".

Re: Some crappy pics of my humble little rig

Pretty cool bedroom rig!

I admit I was expecting a Marshall Stack and an LP with a middle pickup that shoots sparks.

Re: Some crappy pics of my humble little rig

For the Marshall Expector Inspectors:

I completely get where you are coming from with that regarding me. I have always in the past used 50-60 watt combo's with 10's. Never had a stack, half, whole, quarter or otherwise. I have played through them many many many times.

I have always just been a fan of the open back combo fan, and dig the utility. I'm a utility kind of guy.

I have spoke many times on my love of the Grail. After many love/lust posts on the Zilla I went out and played a couple a number of times. Have to say - it's awesome.

For just one trick basic Spring verb - I gotta give the Grail a tonal edge. A little more tanky, a little more gritty, a little more organic. Just a slight edge on pure natural sound.

In the big scheme of simple - I prefer it. But I'd dig a Zilla too.
