Pffffffft! "...missing the switch tip and mounting screws..." Right there, that lowers the value by at least $1800. Amateur!

He doesn't think it's worth that much. He doesn't even know what it's worth. He just wants to advertise it without accidentally selling it for too little. If you put something up for open bidding without knowing what it's worth, you might get less than you'd be willing to sell it for. I will be using a similar tactic pretty soon for some old rock-n-roll memorabilia that I want to sell (my dad's original Last Waltz concert t-shirt and a print of the 35mm theatrical trailer to 200 Motels).

Waste of time. He'll get a ton of people "watching" that listing just to see if someone is crazy enough to buy it, and a ton of questions from people trying to low-ball him on the price. Then if he drops the price even once, people will decide he's an idiot or desperate. Since the only pay option is BIN for way too much money, I don't see how an auction like this is worth the listing fees.

Seriously, I know several people who make their living through ebay. No reserve, no minimum bid, 7-day listing ending Sunday evening is the proven formula. OTOH, playing games is a good way to convince potential buyers that you're not worth the aggravation. Every serious bidder you lose will cost you money in the final analysis.

Besides, any damn fool can see that's a righty pickguard that he flipped over...

I did something similar with my 73 Ovation Deacon 12 string. I listed it with a low starting price with a sky high reserve. The guitar got up to $2600 I printed out the auction and put it away for insurance purposes.

crackhead

"Find another one of these!!"
Sure thing pal: Warmoth has a ton of them, for starters. Nothing special about a '71 Gibson V pickguard.

And I love it when sellers say how easy it is to replace an item they're not including (the legendary $10 whammy bar for a Floyd Rose), but can't be bothered with doing it themselves.
Maybe they prefer more of a challenge?
