If that happens, you are working too hard. One thing it does do is train your hand to use the least amount of force possible to execute a note.
Yesh, I do that, that's how I was trained at the Conservatory, but the flesh of my finger still senses/touches the fingerboard underneath and when that goes away, even with a light touch, the metal strings just feel like cheese cutter wire. I think the amount of touch my finger glances on the fingerboard is part of how I tell when I've pressed to hard or am in the zone. Take that away and I can't tell if I'm pressing to hard or not.
