Some recent D'Avanzo guitars...

Re: Some recent D'Avanzo guitars...

As much as I still love my pride and joy, seen here:

That bora burst is calling my name something fierce. God damn it's so beautiful.

Side note - as long as were talking about the contours of the JD, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention how awesome the side of the body is. The contours are brotherly and extremely ergonomic. See for yourself:

Agileguy...Glad to hear you're still enjoying your JD!! My guitars do seem to like to live in sets it seems, your dark cherry and the bora sure would look nice hanging on the wall next to each other haha.

JOLLY...Thanks man!!

Agile, of all his guitars (which by the way I think they are ALL absolutely superb), that is my favorite model with the Zhangbuckers pups. I prefer the tiger eye burst and abalone fret markers (just my personal preference), but that guitar is amazing!!

Re: Some recent D'Avanzo guitars...

It's no secret that I have always hated the ESP guitar body shapes, especially the Viper. There is just something that isn't right about that "droopy" body.

But your JD bodies are absolutely gorgeous!!!

Re: Some recent D'Avanzo guitars...

Love all the JDs... but especially 15, 16 & 17. Wow, does that grain "pop" on the green! Awesome work! :fing2:

Re: Some recent D'Avanzo guitars...

GuitarDoc...Thanks! I tweaked the heck out of the shape to get it just right and I'm real happy with it and am glad others like it too since while I love doing S, T and other standard shapes all builders use it's nice to have something that's my own.

BriGuy...Thanks! The green one is one of my favorites I've done so far.

Diminished...There's really no one size fits all price since they're all one off customs based on customer (or my) chosen specs. Due to wood, hardware, pickups and finishes swinging the price up and down I price them per custom order. They tend to float in the $2k-$3k range to give you a ballpark. While not cheap, they're quite reasonable for one off custom guitars.

Re: Some recent D'Avanzo guitars...

I think that price is more than fair. Especially considering what some people pay for disposable items like mobile phones and gaming consoles.

This would be for life so the price is beyond decent.

Re: Some recent D'Avanzo guitars...

My fave is still that green sparkle strat you did with the floyd, all maple board , whitepickguard, and 3 singles...I think it was a mutt, no?

man....that guitar just totally rubbed me the right way

Re: Some recent D'Avanzo guitars...

kramersteen...Thanks! I keep having people who play the guitars, fellow builders and even customers telling me I need to raise the prices haha. So that's always a good sign. I've been thankful enough to have a few repeat customers too which always makes me feel like I'm doing something right when the same guy wants a few guitars from me.

Jeff...Yeah, that one was a mutt. Cool guitar but could be done better if you want one :D

Re: Some recent D'Avanzo guitars...

That JD body shape is the coolest. I remember a few months ago emailing you for a quote, then I changed my mind on what I wanted. Now if only I could come up with the scratch. Some day. :)

Re: Some recent D'Avanzo guitars...

First, I LOVE the offset tele body as well!! Next, I was really excited with the blue flame top, then when I saw the green quilt, jaw hit the floor!! I love quilt and that is a GORGEOUS top! WOW

Re: Some recent D'Avanzo guitars...

Stunning stuff Mike! My bucket list purchases are a 2HB Floyded Tele from you and a Celtic Edana from Scott F!

One day, one day.... :sigh: :D

Cdwillis....Thanks! Whenever you're ready.

Bloodrose...I'm a flame top guy over quilt but when I saw that wild grain pattern on the raw wood slab for the green one I knew it would be cool and after paint even I was shocked at how amazing it looks.

stevie....Thanks man! I've got a real cool Floyded T in the works now, check out the specs for DA.020 on my site. Not H/H, it's H/S but it's going to be cool, and the first to use my T shape headstock with a Floyd.

Re: DAMN!!! Those...are...BEAUTIFUL!

GJ....Thanks!! I liked that green one with customer chosen specs so much it inspired me to do another figured top H/S floyded 24.75" scale JD with a few little twists.

Re: Some recent D'Avanzo guitars...

This is my neck and body heel. Took away everything that gets in your hands way but left as much meat as possible and didn't over sculpt it for no reason since that's the tonal transfer point between the body and neck and when you over sculpt it you seem to lose some resonance and tone transfer.

Yeah, it's a pretty vital area. I feel that the Fender style square heel on my old Ibz gives them a level of oomph and sustain, particularly the 24 fretter on which the neck joint starts at the 17th fret.
