Something brighter than a Custom 8? (in mahogany)

Re: Something brighter than a Custom 8? (in mahogany)

JB8 is phenomenal and one of my favourite pickups. It's the perfect halfway point between a JB and the Distortion. All the organicness and character of the stock JB, but with more of the "punch you in the gut" dynamics of the Distortion. Killer killer pickup.
cool. if the legend that the JB and Distortion are the same wind is true, then a JB8 would seem to fit right in between.

have you run the JB8 in solid mahogany?

do you know of any posts here on the JB8? (the forum search doesn't do well on three-letter search terms. :) )

similar, but not exactly the same wind.

haven't run it in mahogany, just alder body/maple+rosewood neck, soon to be in a different alder body/maple+pau ferro neck guitar

Alt8 is not offered in 7 string. I'd say Distortion. But maybe you're a target market of Pegasus.
i figured that the custom shop could wind me an Alt 8 7-string or Crazy 8 7-string; it would just cost $200.

that Pegasus looks neat. i can't find B/M/T numbers for it, or an impedance reading (the tone chart says :7.57 k, but that seems a typo; maybe 17k?). it says it's best in medium bright woods, and i've got a not-bright wood. so maybe that means i need a Pegasus 8! :)

i think for now i'll try to score a used JB 7 and swap in A8 if necessary, and go from there.

JB8 is my #1 in my '84 LPC (D standard/Drop C).

It's all "RAWRRR RAWRRR" with a WALL of lower & mid mids.

From what you're wanting, I think you would prefer the JB+ (small ceramic) which I've used and liked as well.
It's a little tighter, more even mids (whole spectrum) and brighter.

edit: SD has confirmed that the JB & DD winds are NOT identical, albeit very similar.

The Nazgul seems like a more approproate fit than pegasus. I'm debating it and the DD7 This is the info i got from a local SD dealer

Nazgul (7-string) - Bridge: Estimated 21k of resistance (sounds a lot like the Distortion with a bit more punch.)

Sentient (7-string) - Neck: Estimated 8.3K resistance (sounds like a combination between the '59 and the Jazz)

I didn't get any B/M/T info. That specs for pegasus sound more like the 8 string specs. Its a medium output pup anyway
