Re: Something going on with my Crate V18...
Fair enough. What do I need to look at?
Well.....
Have you ever worked on a live amp before.?
Do you have a meter.?
If not.....you can still turn the chassis...I think on the 18's can just remove the upper chassis screw on each side and turn the chassis toward you...have to pull the tubes first.
If you have never worked on a live amp...and do not have a meter...you can still take a look to see if there is an obvious problem...something burned up...black...or broken.
If you DO see something.....and you want to replace a part.....
The caps will PROBABLY discharge in a few seconds if you leave the Stand By in play mode. So you will either have to check with a meter...throw caution to the wind...or discharge the caps.
You could have a cold solder joint somewhere.
Do you solder.?
It could be quite a few things.
Sometimes you can induce the problem...and then start checking all the normal voltages...and find the offending part(s)
If you really do not know what you are doing...you probably should not attempt this. You could get injured in the process...or maybe perform a substandard repair that is potentially dangerous...stuff like that.
Only you know if you are capable of getting into this thing.
good luck
