Son Of A @#$###%***$#@

Dean Hardtail Fanologist
I always have my eye out for USA Dean Hardtail's, as I'm selling my Blue one and I'm likely selling my 2004 signed Collectors Edition in quilted maple amber burst. I would really like another 2002 or 2003 in a unique finish, as the wood from the first 3-4 years were supposed to be the best of the best of Dean's wood stock.

So this morning an incredible deal popped on Reverb, and I mean incredible. It was a 2002 flame top with a really nice pattern and a one piece back in a really nice trans amber finish, but not a burst finish. Beautiful. My absolute favorite Hardtail is my 2002 Vintage Cherry Burst. There is just something about it, so I'd like another 2002.

Anyhow, I was at the hospital with my wife, who was having an outpatient procedure. I had my tablet with me and was using my iPhone as my hotspot, but I couldn't get it to connect to PayPal or take my credit card after adding the guitar to my cart. We were pretty deep in the hospital and service was spotty. Normally I would have just gone outside to get better service, but the nurse had told me I could see my wife in just a few minutes and that she'd had a hard time during the procedure.... so I didn't want to be outside buying a guitar while she was lying in recovery in pain, waiting for me to come in.

The only thing I could get Reverb to do was let me make an offer. So I made an offer for the full asking price + the full shipping price listed in the ad, along with a note saying I was tied up with my wife for a medical procedure and that I could probably pay within the hour, but wanted to reserve the guitar.

20 minutes later I get a message that my offer was declined and the guitar was now sold. WTF???? It turns out that since the seller hadn't yet accepted the offer, someone else came along and put the guitar in their cart and bought it. That automatically declines all offers, even my full price offer that was submitted before the other party bought the guitar.

Long story short, I'm pretty bummed and it's bummed me out all day. Deals like this, at the asking price for a 15 year old mint condition guitar, are not common. I've never seen one listed at such a low price.

It wasn't meant to be, and I won't die. I just wanted to share my disappointment with a group of guys that I know will understand. Thanks for reading if you made it this far.

Sorry to hear that. When somebody makes an offer, all the watchers get an email so somebody snatched it likely because of that.

I had a similar situation where I was about to accept the counteroffer of the seller but it sold in the meantime.

Pisser about the guitar. But, more importantly, how’s your wife doing?

Yeah, right? Here I am moaning about a guitar that I in no way need, while my poor wife is recovering. She's already starting to feel better, thank you for asking. She had a nerve ablation in her neck today. This is the 2nd one she's had in the region. For some reason the nerves in this ablation were more difficult to treat than those in her last ablation, so she had more local anesthesia for a longer procedure, which she sometimes reacts negatively to. Once the anesthesia began to wear off, she was in greater pain.

We're alternately using heat and cold on the area in addition to some pharmaceutical relief, so she's more comfortable now and able to rest.

With regard to the guitar, I'm sure we all have our tales of woe about the one that got away, but we just keep on looking. We're either resilient or we never learn... not sure which.

Re: Son Of A @#$###%***$#@

Consensus is that the USA Hardtails were excellent. And I've played a few that were. But there are always bound to be some duds. I had a USA and it wasn't bad by any means. But my purple flame top Korean was better. I sold the USA and kept the Korean (I have 2 imports). Moral of the story ... maybe the shoddy internet service gods did you a favor on this one.

Re: Son Of A @#$###%***$#@

It wasn't me! (older members of this forum will instantly know what I'm talking about ;) )

I do feel for you. I know how much it sucks. that's why I make my own guitars now: much more moments to feel sorry for myself because of utter failures.

Re: Son Of A @#$###%***$#@

I've had problems with Reverb before. One time I bought an almost mint MIM Strat for $250 with three Hot Rails in it, and I got a message from the seller a week later that the listing had already sold on Ebay but he forgot to take it down on Reverb.

Re: Son Of A @#$###%***$#@

Ok, I'm over it now. I'm looking at it as Darg said..... the Gods of the internet just saved me from a complete lemon. However, if I had something like what happened to Chistopher, I would stew for a while.... that is not cool at all. Thank you all for sharing your misery stories....I know most of us here have at least one story like this, given how long we've been gear obsessed freaks!!

Thank you all for asking about my wife.... today she is even better, whew!

Luckily I know orpheo isn't responsible THIS time.

JB, not a chance on smashing up the LP, unless my guitar tech does it (knock on wood for luck).

Oh, and esandes, I'm coming for you........

Re: Son Of A @#$###%***$#@

So you lost out on a guitar while taking care of your lady. Sorry about the guitar, but cmon man. Your woman? You chose wisely

Re: Son Of A @#$###%***$#@

Guitar: Not meant to be. There are ALWAYS more guitars, and better ones, no matter how good that one was.

Wife: Glad to hear she is doing better. You were in the right place.
