Sorting out ground on a PTB bass only control

Hey all,

I've got a hagstrom swede that I've replaced the mud switch with a bass rolloff (just the bass side of the PTB stack). I'm getting all sorts of weird clicking and general grounding gremlin sounds right now. currently it's a sloppy star ground situation and I'm going to do a complete do over. Get it nice and neat and more traditional les paul 50's style with a 'u' ground wire around the pots etc.

Couple of questions.

1) Do I need to ground the bass contour pot? Could it hurt if I did? Currently the signal path goes straight 50s style to the 3 way switch, then through the bass countour and finally onto the jack. Some diagrams of the PTB have the bass pot ungrounded, some have it grounded. Thoughts?

2) I don't have access to braided shield wire right now. Should I just twist the ground and hot up (white and black) to run it up to the 3 way switch then onto the bass countour then all the way back to jack? Twisted wire all the way?

Some guidance would be great. Time to get this guitar back on it's feet!

Also, while this guitar is currently star grounded that means that there is not shielded wire. It's a black wire to the star ground from the 3 way switch and 3 runs of unshielded white wire to the signal connections. Can this remain? Or is it advised to run shielded to these points?
