Southern Rock

What is the best SD pickup set to cover Marshall Tucker, Blackfoot and Blackberry Smoke but can be coaxed into hard rock when a little heat is added?

I’ll be putting these in a non-weight relieved Gibson LP Gold Top.

Re: Southern Rock

Pearly gates neck, slash bridge. Just saw Charlie layin it down in ashville not long ago. Sounded great

Re: Southern Rock

Any of the Duncan PAF flavors will get you there. I have an A2 59 set in my LP Standard right now and was just jamming some BBD through my Spawn Sounded damn fine.

Southern Rock

I like APH1 set. The original set Slash actually used. I think you want the brighter sound of those for southern rock rather than the darker APH2 signature Slash set.
Or pearly gates.
But I can also recommend Dimarzio super distortion in the bridge and a PAF pro in the neck- not only is it kick as for classic rock, blues and country can be played on them and they are awesome for southern rock especially through a fender amp.

Re: Southern Rock

Pearly Gates, Standard 59's, or even Whole Lotta's

I was in a band in the 90's that did classic / southern rock and I also used a PG / Custom Custom. The Custom Custom was fantastic in the bridge for Allman's, vintage cClapton, any sort of gritty slide work.

Re: Southern Rock

charlie has played an old jr most of the times ive seen him. last month it was the whole show with the jr but i still think it has a tysontone pup

Re: Southern Rock

Id agree with most of these you cant go wrong with any Duncan PAF, Im not a fan of the Custom 5 but Im not a huge Alnico 5 fan unless its an Unoriented Alnico 5 (favorite magnet by far). But I would say APH2 if your guitar has alot of personality on its own, PGB if Your guitar is kind of Bland and needs some added personality, and SH5 Custom if you want it super super thick. I have Alnico 2 Pro in Mahogany Strat and PG in Epi Les paul and both are amazing.

My understanding was his Jr still had the stock Gibson P90. I could be wrong though. I do know that he gets some killer tones and is a tasty player.

Re: Southern Rock

I think his '58 LP Custom has the tyson tone pickups. As stated the P&G set. There is a rig rundown on YouTube somewhere. I do know he mentions the JR and what it has. As far as his rig goes, he's also using killer amps.
