SP90-1b taming the highs?

Re: SP90-1b taming the highs?

The A8's I've gotten from Addiction were either polished or 'rough cut' with saw marks. No roughcast A8's. Are they available?

I thought I ordered rough, but they may have been rough cut rather than roughcast. Didn't look that closely at 'em.

Changing the tone pot from 500k to 250k wouldn't make much difference in tone. Try changing the vol pot to 250k.

For the bridge, definitely an A8, but you may even want to try it in combination with a roughcast UOA5 if the A8/A5 combination still sounds a tiny bit too bright for you.

Re: SP90-1b taming the highs?

Update: I've asked 4 Seasons pickups to rewire the SP90-1B with #43 to 12,5k. I changed magnets to roughcast A4/A8 and now it's perfect.
I also tried a PX90 from Arcane that uses A5 magnets and #44 wire (also around 12,5k) but I didn't like it as good as #43 wire because it was thinner and lacking lower mids for me.

I hope that you are not paying too much for the rewind. Your revised specification is not far off those of the SD SP90-3n. i.e. The pickup that some see fit to use in the bridge/Treble position.

Well, the resistance is similar, but the dual ceramic mags aren't going to sound/perform very similar to the roughcast A4/A8 combination.
