Speaker changing

How difficult could it be? Is it something that some of you have done yourself?

I think I am pretty sure I will swap the Tube 10 of my LC15R for a new one, possibly a Vintage 10 or a the new Greenback from Celestion as they are more readily available in the UK than Webers.

So is it something I could do myself or should I steer clear from messing around in my amp and get a pro to do it?

Re: Speaker changing

Extremely easy, go for it.

Could you develop a bit more? What is involved? Is it just a question of unscrewing the speaker, unsolder the wires and then the over way round with the new one? Is it any risk of electrocution as I heard that amp tweaking can be prone to such risk?

Enlighten me!

Re: Speaker changing

unplug the speaker, un solder the wires going to the speaker and then remove the speaker from the amp viz the 4 nuts holding it in then to install the new speaker simply do what you did to get the old one out just backwards...make sure to get the + and - wires to the + and - terminals on the new speaker correct.

Re: Speaker changing

I have not changed a guitar speaker recently, but sometimes PA speakers are mounted into place on a thin strip of sticky-back foam insulation in addition to the 4 bolts, which makes them a bit more stubborn to remove. You may need to apply a little persuasion...just go slowly if this is the case and try not to bend the old speaker. If you can break one area free of the foam, the rest will come more easily. Yours may not have this, but I thought I would mention it just in case.

Re: Speaker changing

Thanks guys, it seems simple enough for me. There is a Celestion supplier in the next town (Glasgow :joke:). Sent them an e-mail already to see if they will sell the 10" greenback soon.

Re: Speaker changing

Sorry for not being very elaborate with my reply.

One thing to remember is be careful not to punch the speaker's edge with the "posts" the speaker sits on. I almost did that once.
