Speaker Comparisons

I'm wondering whether I need to change the stock speaker in my amp (Ampeg Reverberocket 1x12). I love the clean tones and the dirty tones give me all the grit I'm looking for. However, when I turn the gain up past 6, it starts to splatter and lose definition. This is a problem with both single-coil and humbuckers. I don't find myself wanting that much gain, but if I ever did it would be nice to have something useable. Other than that, I'm super happy with the amplifier.

Could a new speaker help here? If so, does anyone have any clips that compare the same guitar and amp with different speakers/cabinets? Or, could it be that the tubes are too hot? I bought the amp used, and I remember the dealer telling me that the last owner put in some hotter tubes.

Any feedback and clips would be very much appreciated.

Re: Speaker Comparisons

Don't have any clips, but my favorite all around speaker in the Celestion V30. Handles the cleans great in my Blues Jr. and will definately handle all the grit and gain you throw at 'em. Slash seems to like 'em as well as countless others. Good luck.

Peace,

Darrin
