I love Eminence. I have a Swamp Thang paired with a 12M-70 in an open back cab. I also have a Canibis Rex in a convertible cab. They all sound fantastic. The Swamp Thang in particular gives the open 2X12 some of the thump of a closed 4X12 combined with the air on top, of an open back. The C-Rex is a great blues/jazz speaker that will do metal.

I would suggest that you look at whatever speaker Orange uses in their 112 cabs that match up to your amp.

Personally, I'm happy with the V-30s and EVM speakers with my Mesa amps. The Tiny Terror into a 112 EVM Mesa Thiele cab would be a beast!

And think about doing some tube blueprinting in your amp, too. The right 12AX7s can tighten the bass and keep the highs smooth.

That would be V30. I think all Orange cabs comes with those, except budget ones that have their own "Voice of the world" speakers in them.

I've been looking at C Rexes as well. Originally thought they might be too dark for my setup, but probably not... I was about to buy 2x12 loaded with them some months ago, but I couldn't schedule the pick up with the seller.

It seems Greenback tightens up really well when you crank it up. Actually sounds great then, except the fizzyness.

It took me a long time to get the sound I wanted from my gear. I had no trouble getting a useable sound, but "not quite there" you know? Lots of folks made recommendations to me, but my own misconceptions took me down the wrong road for a long time. My best advice? Save some money and take your head for a drive and try it on multiple cabs with your preferred guitar.

Also, in your specific case, don't underestimate the effect your physical cab has on the tone of any speaker you mount in it. Personally I was shocked the first time I heard a Mesa 2x12 vertical cab...sounds bigger than some 4x12 and most of the 2x12's I've tried.

Like I said , there's really no shop within 2 hours ride where you could try out cabs. Even then, I don't know a shop here that would have separate room, so you could use other than very moderate volume. And 95 % gear sold used is on sale somewhere 5-6 hours ride away...

I guess I just have to buy, try and sell until I find what I'm looking for.

I guess I've narrowed down my search into something with lows and mids similar to greenback, but with smoother highs and more contained, less fizzy overall sound.

tiny terrors are fine. Make sure you have strong tubes and not old ones. Worth throwing a new set in to be sure and keep your old set for emergencies at gigs when in doubt.
re:speakers. greenbacks sound exactly as you describe them in open back cabs. They are always improved in a closed back cab and even more so in a multiple cab like an 4x12.
I think with your amp a closed cab with a 1x12 is fine for gigs however I think you would very much enjoy either the g12h30 for a louder more defined classic tone (they always remind me of hendrix) or an eminence private jack for an "improved" greenback tone with a sweet top and stronger lows especially in a 1x12.
Just one final thing...make sure the cab is a properly designed and constructed cab made of either marine ply ala marshall style or solid pine ala fender. cutting corners on cab construction is false economy.

Interesting, I thought Heritage to be less smooth due to lower wattage. The seller I bought Greenback from actually sold it, because he change it for that.

It's very well built with 18 mm plywood. Can't say about the design though. There's not much consistence in cab sizes for guitar use anyway...

I actually bought a pair of g12h30's recently. Haven't got them yet, I'lll update when I get to try it out.

Just need a new cab now for the second speaker. I was thinking about building a copy of the existing one to make a 1x12 stack, but I don't really have free time for that. But empty 2x12's are somewhat rare and expensive on the market, pair of matching 1x12 even more so...

If you're after Greenback tone with more open mids & non ice-picky highs...plus more lower mid emphasis & good/tight bass (but overall pretty balanced) check out the Emi Legend GB128. It's an awesome sounding & really versatile Brit-voiced speaker for any sort of cab. And it'll save you some $$ too :D

I looked at those, seemed like a perfect fit, but I couldn't find much info about them aside of marketing hype.

That useless V128 version got me rather vary of their Legend series...

I own both. I don’t like the 55 Hz as much. Doesn’t seem as bright and lively. It was originally a bass speaker right? And the rap was that Hendrix played The Wind Cries Mary through Noel Redding’s Marshall bass amp.

To each his own and all that, and it’s good.... but I don’t like it as much as the 75 Hz version.

Ok. I got the G12H's I bought couple of days ago.

Seller's announcement (is this the correct word?) was a bit messy: I thought them to be in mint condition, but when I opened the package, they were brand new: Still in unopened factory bags.

So now I have to break them in. Apparently it's supposed to take quite a long time with these speakers?

It's actually surprisingly good straight out of the box. A bit stiff and lifeless of course, but I actually like it already more than I liked Greenback, or that Emi Legend.

I've been playing them for couple of hours, and played music through it thourough the day... about 10 hours on them thus far.
