Speaker for Marshall cabinets fed by Laneys

Once again, I have an AOR(six knober) which I ran through JCM900 1960, I wanna able to be in Malmsteen/Lynch type a territory in the neck pick up, and i want kinda Iommi's Mob Rule's/Eternal Idol proximity on rythm playing. So what should I put in my cab, now I have 1999 stock speakers.

Probably V30's, or my favorite: Celestion 75-watters and Greenbacks in an X pattern.

So, am I wrong to say that 75watters will give tighter and fatter bottom end punch and the Greenback will give that cello/violinish wormth in the neck position ??? What would be different with V30s ???
Thanks Dudes.

Well they're going to give you what they give you regardless of what pickup you have selected - that is to say, you aren't going to be hearing more of one speaker type than the other and then have that change when you switch pickups.

75 watters have deep bass and extended highs with a smooth midrange.

Greenbacks have a nice low-mid growl and are very smooth through the whole spectrum. That's why they mix nicely with the 75s.

V30s are more jagged-sounding and have a pretty strong peak in the upper midrange, and don't have the big lows or high highs of the 75s.

sosomething
Celestion 75-watters and Greenbacks

would the same effect be achieved in a 2X12 combo ???

Re: Speaker for Marshall cabinets fed by Laneys

I prefer Vin 30's. I've made some of those Marshall cabs sound a lot better by doing a criss cross of Vintage 30 and the stock G75T's. That's the combination that Bogner uses in the Uberschall Ubercabs.

That way, you just buy 2 vintage 30's, and sell both your G75's for the price of one. Then, it's like buying one speaker.

I think G1265s or Emi Tonespotters ( Their take on the speakers) would be great for that. I really dig the warmer top end. It is classic 80s hard rock with those.

Re: Speaker for Marshall cabinets fed by Laneys

I have a V30 and an Emi R,W&B in mine Dr. M

My AOR (series 1, 50 watter) is very sensitive to what tubes are in it and the speaker choices have proven to be the same way.

I am running a 2x12 cab with an Emi/Celestion for my GH100L and really like the combo. In that cab is a Emi Governor, providing that smooth delivery and the big midrange. Partnering with it is a Marshall Vintage G12, which is a 70 watt Celestion. This speaker gives me that top end sparkle.

For the AOR I started with a pair of Celestion G12M70's which lacked midrange. I swapped out speakers a few times, going through a V30, a Governor, Wizard, and a R,W&B, I have finally come to the pairing of the R,W&B and the V30. The V30 works because of it's dark lows and lower-midrange (the old blanket over the speaker), and that upper midrange spike I find hard to handle on a Marshall, isn't so bad in a Laney. The R,W&B is big and powerful, like a clean Governor without as much midrange, but still mid-strong. It is very clean and smooth. Another mix of the best of both worlds of Emi and Celestion.

With this amp you just have to spend some money and swap out components. But, it is fun. ;)

EDIT: I like the setup now, but if I had kept going I would have looked at a Helatone, a Texas Heat, and a Tonespotter at Kevlar mentioned. But, I was thinking "get it cleaner, and get the gain down".

Hmm, intersting, but I really wanna emphisize the fact that I want
"to be in Malmsteen/Lynch type a territory in the neck pick up(single coil), and i want kinda Iommi's Mob Rule's/Eternal Idol proximity on rythm playing (bridge hum)" I don't wanna nail those tones, but thats the closest thing. I will install JJs 83CC gold pin for V1, V2 and V4 83CC high gain, and balanced one for V3 and matched pair of E34Ls. So, from your set ups that you described which one was the closest to that sound. But the combo question I have is actually for my bro's 100w 2X12 valveking combo.
