I'm gonna try and squeeze a lil more "fatness" out of my DSL. The speaker i have is pretty bright, and breaks up pretty quick and not in the smoothest way (heck it was a $30 speaker, so i guess it's OK for the price). It's a celestion super 65. The cab is a smallish MDF vox 1x12 but I'm not gonna worry about cabinet construction at this stage. The cab has been fine with other speakers.
I'm looking for a warm, clear speaker with a slightly rounder kinda bass and definitely a rolled off top end. I need the speaker to be more than 50W, preferably more than 60, as my amp is 50W.
I'd like to stay 16Ω as the 8ohm tap on DSLs are known to short out because of some grounding issue, so although mine works I'm not trying to roll the dice on that.
So yeah... >50W, 16Ω, warmth.
I'm not gonna worry about "american" or "british" tonality.
Things that came to mind that I have not tried are:
a weber version of the G12-65. I dun wanna drop the $ for the celestion heritage g12-65. Anyways, that or the weber G12M-70 type. both are recommended for "taking the egde off," it seems.
a warehouse HM75 or ET65 might work also?
The eminence swamp thang or texas heat, or the tonker on the brit side. I thought about the wizard but I heard some people call it kind of 'fizzy'. not sure if it's true or not.
I'm not sure about V30 types... the strong upper mids might not be what I'm looking for this time around. My DSL has upper mids enough as it is, that's for sure.
a scumback 65W version of the M75 type sounds like it would rule, but $170+ shipping is a bit harsh.
so throw out some suggestions, please.
