speaker jack issue

I can't be the only person to have this issue...

I have an old 2x10 amp cab, that used to have an amp in it of course, but now only speakers. As such, it has no speaker jack as the amp had them....so, I want to use the cabinet but of course need a speaker jack to hook to an external amp.

Rather than fit in a speaker jack to the cabinet, is there any kind of external "box" or assembly I could use instead? Basically a speaker jack and the wiring assembly outside of the cabinet.

A jack is a hole a nut and two wires...why would you not want to install a standard jack...whatever you are thinking still needs connecting to the speakers...it's not just me who's going to be confused here.

You can build a simple external box ... 1/4" jack for input and speaker leads out, or another 1/4" jack for output ... but why? You are going to have to connect wires to the speaker terminals. Much easier and cleaner to install a jack which would be wired to the speakers so all you have to do is unplug the speaker cable from the cabinet. If it's about not wanting to drill a hole in the cabinet, install the jack on some type of bracket and secure it with a couple of small screws inside the cabinet but easily accessible.

So if it was built as a combo, but the amp chasis has been removed, there should be an opening where the amp's control panel used to be.

Simply mount a small aluminium or steel bracket (probably some kind of right-angle, 'L' shaped cross-section) in the opening and fit a jack socket into that to recieve the incoming signal from the amp's speaker output. Obviously the 'internal' side of the socket will be wired to the speakers.

+1. Or just cut-to-size a blank rack panel. They're cheap. Heavy-duty-065-steel-blank-rack-panel-2u-with-flanges
