Speaker OHMs

My combo has 1 speaker @ 16 ohms
If I add a 1x12 extension cab that speaker should be 16 ohms as well and my amp should then be set at 8 ohms? Correct?

Re: Speaker OHMs

hmmm...that's a toughy. it all depends on how the extension cabinet is connected to the output section. if it is in paralllel, which it almost certainly is, then you are correct. here is the rule. always guess low. if you aren't sure of what the impedance of your speakers is, set your amp for the lowest setting. this way you won't overload your output section with too little impedance. there are also those who prefer the tone you get when there is an impedance mismatch, i.e. what i described above. hope this helps.

Re: Speaker OHMs

I have 2 plugs for the loud speaker. I use the one with my stock speaker in the combo. It is set at 16 ohms. If I add a 1x12 in the other jack I will change the ohms to 8 correct?
