Hi from New Zealand,
I am thinking about building an extension speaker cabinet that will run off my old Laney 30 watt class combo basically because I can get my hands on 2 brand new Peavey/Eminence 15" 8 ohm 50 watt speakers at a good price as used in the Delta Blues and Classic Blues combos. I intend to build a quad size cabinet and add a couple more 8 ohm speakers when budget permits.
1st question : Are these speakers any good ?
I plan to wire the 2 x 15's in parallel to make 4 ohms and then put that circuit in series with the original 8 ohm Celestion in my combo to produce 12 ohms load. The socket that my amp's speaker pugs into on the back of the amp states - 8 ohms load only but I understand that you can use a higher load.
I have been told that what I plan to do is not a good idea as most of the power available will go into the extension cabinet as it has the lower resistance. I don't see a problem with this as that is what I want it to do anyway. Can anybody see a problem with what I propose doing ?
Regards and many thanks
