Speakers: Vintage 30 VS. EVM 12L ?

Re: Speakers: Vintage 30 VS. EVM 12L ?

So, one more time, I want my bridge humbucker palm mutes/pick harmonics in the style of Kai Hansen/Kiko Loureiro/Emppu Vuorinen and Violinish neck single coil leads like Uli Roth/Blackmore/YJM will an X pattern of V30/EVM12 get me there?

Re: Speakers: Vintage 30 VS. EVM 12L ?

The problem is that i'm in germany. Used EVMs are pretty much non-existant around here and the amount of available other speakers also isn't that big. and since the Sovereign is a 2000€ amp i guess the high dollar speaker may be justified(not like putting 1000$ rims on a 200$ rust-bucket)

Don't confuse high dollar with high quality... Eminence makes some great speakers and they are all around 80-100$.

Dr. Mavashi, I have heard or people using V30/EVM-12L combos, and overall concensus was that these speakers are too diffent in musical flavor. YMMV

LooseCannon, there seems to be one speaker that comes up often as an EVM-12L substitite (EV stopped making the 12L for a few years). This would be the Eminence Delta Pro 12A. It is a bit more costly, perhaps due to the the cast aluminum basket. It is said to have tamer highs:

Loserchief, there may be a 12S (short throw) models out there for a good price considering the rarity, but these should be passed over. These were PA cab speakers, and EV found that guitar players were using them. EV then brought out the 12L (long-throw) model just for guitar players.
