Speaking of the EMG DG-20 Set...

has anyone compared the DG-20 set as is with a similar setup but with SAV or SV pickups instead? Being a Gilmour freak I always want to build a Strat for the DG-20 set but I keep remembering the SAs as being a little to fat and rounded, I like the sparkle of a true Strat singlecoil.

So yeah, has anyone used the SPC/EXG setup with either the SAVs or SVs?

I was going to, but I couldn't find many good reviews of the SAV's or SV's- everyone on Harmonycentral was dissappointed with them. I found the SA's too round and fat, not giving me much of a tonal difference between positions.

I liked the EMG EXG, but thought the SPC was pretty weak compared to the Fender Clapton mid boost. I eventually took the EMG's out, routed and wired the guitar for Lace Sensor Golds and the Clapton midrange boost. It does great vintage strat tones and growls like a Les Paul, and playing with the TBX boost can get you tones close to the EXG tone.

The huge advantage with EMG's- and why Gilmour used them for many years- is they are dead quiet with no noise. The Lace Sensors aren't that quiet.

The SPC's magic is realized when it is used with a passive humbucker. A DD + a SPC, you got one hell of a hard yet, wonderful tone right there.

That set does Gilmour's 80's sound, not as much the classic stuff. It's a nice set, but for classic Gilmour a regular vintage passive would be best.

The SA's are hi-fi sounding, a bit fat and a bit hot.

SV's are ice-picky to me, ceramic, Kirk Hamet likes these

SAV's are in-between and going for more the traditional voicing.

SLV's (Lukather set, and my favorite actually) are an SAV wind with an SA preamp, so they are more traditionally voiced, but a lot hotter.

Yeah, my black strat is passive loaded and does the vintage Gilmour thing great, but I'm always half-tempted by the EMGs to build a red strat...
