Speaking of wah-wahs...

i dont know, but he uses it in every FREAKIN' song.

I know. It gets pretty annoying, and obvious that he's covering up slop with wah, but I still think the wah itself sounds awesome.

Re: Speaking of wah-wahs...

I don't like his wah sound at all. It sounds think and whiny to me. I prefer something with a very deep vocal "gulp" Joe Satriani does this wonderfully.

I like expressive, vocal wah tones as well, but I'd like to be able to make it sound like it's puking, too :)

How does Kirk Hammett get that sick, fat wah tone? Anybody know?

Sick? Easy..he's not a very good player. :laugh2: Sorry, the :saeek: made me say it!

It's really just a matter of picking and foot technique.

If you'd like to hear some stellar wah wah work, check out Jeff Beck's wah wah playing on the TRUTH album. Sounds like he's throwing up sometimes! :laugh2:

If any of you younger players don't have that CD or album you really should have it. It was one of the first four albums that invented heavy rock:

Truth
Led Zep I
Are You Experienced
Fresh Cream

That was the birth of heavy rock music right there.

Re: Speaking of wah-wahs...

For Fresh Cream I think Clapton used a borrowed '58 Les Paul with alnico 2 or degaussed alnico 5 magnets in the original pafs. And an early version of the 100 watt 1959 Marshall Plexi.

For Disrali Gears those are alnico 5 humbuckers in a '64 SG...possibly degaussed a bit for a softer more alnico 2 like tone. Tho Duncan 59's work great for me when I'm after that tone.

He also rolled off the tone control to zero or almost zero for what he called his Woman Tone. In some interviews he'll say he did it all on the neck pickup and in other interviews he'll say he did it on the bridge pickup.

One more thing: I think my Vox Wah Wah that John (Stratdeluxer97) rebuilt for me has the strongest but still most vintage wah wah tone of any wah I've ever owned. If you want to own a wah that will do it all (everything from Jimi Hendrix to Puke tones :smack: ) get John to mod you a Vox 847 Wah Wah. (I hope that's the model number...it's the reissue with the chrome top)

I still love my Fulltone Clyde, but the modded Vox Wah Wah has a stronger wah wah effect and does those gutteral, growley, puking tones better than the Fulltone.

The wah wah effect comes on more suddenly with the modded Vox too, and I think that's makes it easier to get those kinds of gutteral tones.

Both the 847 and 848 have chrome tops. The 847 is just an 847 reissue, the 848 is the Clyde reissue.

847 lacks true bypass and a power supply....The 848 has both and comes with a red fasel inductor..The 848 is pretty good right out of the box but benefits from the Fulltone pot and inductor and some board tweaks with better caps....The 848 is $50 more to buy than the 847..

As far as I know I think it's just his tone... the wah just gives it the... well, wah sound. His tone has been called the "california smile EQ" (new guitar one, worst tone #3 :yell: )

find out how he EQ's himself then I think you've got an answer.

Re: Speaking of wah-wahs...

From 1992-2003, Kirk's main live wah was a custom made rackmount unit. This was the EMB Audio Remote wah system. They are nearly impossible to find since EMB has been out of business and apparently didn't make stuff like this for the general public very often.

Now, Kirk uses two Dunlop 1SR rackwahs in his live rig (and I don't think they sound as good as the EMB). That's his live stuff, but he does own a lot of other wahs including Dunlops, Vox, morley, budda, snarling dogs, etc.

My suggestion for a KH type of wah sound is to checkout the following wahs:

-Dunlop Dimebag
-Dunlop 535Q
-Dunlop 1SR (or the new 2SR)
-Teese RMC3
