spend fair money on an amp you dont need?

I say don't get it. Music gear is a tool. No point in owning a tool you don't use regularly. If you just want to play one occasionally, find a music store or place that does rentals. If you're spending 3 grand on an amp, it should be something you play regularly!

Would you buy it for 28 bucks?

Buy it and use it
why would you not use it?

You're not making sense

a 40w 2x12 amp is way louder than i need most of the time and i dont really plug in at home much.

i have more guitars than i need already so spending the 3k on a guitar doesnt make any more sense than getting this.

these things dont really die of old age, and if something goes, you just replace it. old hand wired stuff can last damn near forever. i suppose ill at least go play them and see which one i like best

Sure . . . then you could resell it and buy something that you want to play. Why clutter up your house with junk you don't need? Life is too short.

My point being maybe 2800 to him is not the same as 2800 is to you. :)

I could easily say I don't use my gear under certain measuring sticks much. I may play a different amp or guitar every day and still only play that specific guitar a few times a year. I guess my point is if you like stuff and can afford it why not buy it?

to steves point of life is too short. this is the fender reverb amp class im missing, i got a smaller one, i got a bigger one, but i dont have the middle 40-50w range. hence the reason i want it

hes gonna get it
he surely is

I have about five amps not counting the modeling devices

I dont play out at all

I have a Laney 80 watt SS amp 1x12
a 50 watt Carvin 2x12
a 40 watt VIP2 1x12
a 30 watt Cube 1x10
a 5 watt Bugera G5 head

I want a big plexi , I have no use at all for 100 watt amp
I dont even have a place to put it

I may get something else
I was looking at Splawns last week

dont get it
if you play it, you will so get it

Lol. Not a collector, I take it. Not everybody is wired the same.

The thing is, I used to collect a bunch of stuff . . . and getting the stuff always felt awesome. But then like three or four days later there would be something else I'd want. There's no satisfying that kind of wanting, and feeding it is like scratching a mosquito bite. . . just makes the irritation worse.

maybe this will be a good excuse for a gear purge. if i have a pro reverb, maybe i dont need the hot rod deluxe, or supro, or vox since they are all 35-50w reverb amps

Don't purge you will regret it in a couple of years especially if you have to repurchase a piece of gear. I have not played the boat anchor Quad Reverb in 3 years but there is no way in hell I would ever sell it.

A Pro would be a better choice at that power level than any of those.

oh, im not really purging. id still have the jtm30, the modded musicmaster bass amp, the 5e3 clone, the 5e7 clone, the trainwreck express clone, the 5f2 clone, the '66 dr, the '69 dsr, and probably a few im forgetting about. not to mention a pile of mercury magnetics transformers, enough to build a 25w reverb amp, a 100w plexi, and a single ended thing. oh, and a massive power tranny that i have no idea why i got it.

the hrd is a fine amp, as is the supro, as is the vox. but i think the pro reverb will be a better fit for me and cover similar territory

I went so far as to build a passive level control in a metal project box. It is a voltage divider with a potentiometer that goes in the series effects loop and acts as another master volume so I can get some finer control over the thing.

That's pretty ingenious. I got one and considered a THD Hotplate, but I just got a Vox Night Train 15w head and ran it through my Marshall 2x12 instead.

i guess my issue is paying $2800 for an amp that will sit mostly unused

Either find a way to use it - even if that means gazing upon it and being stoked that you have it - or don't buy it. Seems simple enough to me.

Not sure if you’ve made up your mind yet, but as Warren Miller says (paraphrased) “They aren’t making any more of these”. Take good care of it (which you do) and it’s only going up in value if you decide you want to move it in a few years.
