And after trading in my Orange Rockerverb, I took back a matchless clubman reverb head. The people at GC were really patient with me as I brought my pedals in and guitars in...A-B'ing back and forth. It sounds wonderful too, more chime...hopefully I can get a strat or a Tele soon too...

Re: spent 3 hours at guitar center yesterday...

Cool. Never tried a Matchless ... infact I've only ever seen 1 over here and I don't know what model that was. Are we going to see some pics and a review? Congrats in any case.

WOW! you spent 3 hrs at a Guitar Center on a Saturday, and didn't kill anyone that was blasting away in dropped D tuning? or lose your hearing? Seems like every guitar I pick up there has that low E dropped.
Congrats!

Re: spent 3 hours at guitar center yesterday...

Haha, no killing of any drop d folks LOL
The GC had a platinum toom with all the nice stuff in it, boogies, budda, vintage Marshalls, orange, etc... so I played in there. Maybe this weekend I can record a clip and give a review or something...

Re: spent 3 hours at guitar center yesterday...

Congrats! The Orange Rockerverb is a good amp, but I can see why some folks don't like it. Matchless is the best of the best in my eyes and I'm sure the tone you get now is probably nothing short of stunning. That chime will get you every time, the cleans just reel you in and when pushed, they get some really good light crunch.

Yeah, GC has carved out a niche for people looking for just that. In fact, at the one near me, they keep a 1951 L-5CES in drop-D propped up next to a Line 6 Spider combo with the knob set to "Insane" and superglued there.

Re: spent 3 hours at guitar center yesterday...

A few weeks ago my wife took me to guitar center, I plugged my Parker into a VHT Pittbull. Needless to say I will go back without her and bring the Pittbull home with me next time.

I dig drop D man :(

Re: spent 3 hours at guitar center yesterday...

well..I willfully spent three hours at Guitar Center. I feel more sorry for the people workign in the store, and the people walking around. A/B'ing between two LOUD amps playing the same thing over and over again could get annoying lol

Re: spent 3 hours at guitar center yesterday...

Sorry for stealing your post!
I don't have a problem with dropped D- I use it ON OCCASION myself- Heck- Neil Young did it 40 years ago on Cinnamon Girl.
It's just every time I go into GC all I hear is that CHUG CHUG riff blasting over and over again, and every guitar I want to try, I have to re-tune.

Re: spent 3 hours at guitar center yesterday...

and every guitar I want to try, I have to re-tune.

and tune, and tune, and tune (none seem to actually stay in tune). then you look at your fretting fingers and they're black from....well, I'm not sure where it comes from - nasty strings, the fretboard, other people's finger funk?

Re: spent 3 hours at guitar center yesterday...

Now for the rest of the story...

Salesman to store manager - "He has been here for over three hours and just will not leave!"

Store manager - "Did he make a purchase?"

Salesman - "No, but we made a killing on a amp he sold us."

Store manager - "Ok, here is what you do... Let him play that Matchless amp that we have not been able to sell, and I will get a couple of the other sales personnel to come over and tell him how great he sounds..."

Salesman "OK, we sell it at a discount?"

Store manager - "What are your out of your freaking mind? Heck, no, we will raise the price 10%, not make that 20% and then tell him you will speak to the manager to try to get a discount of say... Hm 15%"

--- Minutes later ---

WOW, thanks for the 15% discount, hope you guys didn't mind me being here so long and thanks again for your patient waiting and helping me....

I try to avoid using young people informal language on this forum but I think that calls for an LOL!

Re: spent 3 hours at guitar center yesterday...

I spent some time there over the past few weeks. I enjoyed jamming on a 212 rockerverb but meh I like closed back cabs. then, I plugged into a 1981 marshall jcm 800. the guy there helped me with the knobs and cranked the volume. gibson standard lp into it. PURE HEAVEN! Reminded me of 12 years ago when I owned one. it was like I have been playing in 2D all this time.

and the JCM800 was 3D sound.
