Spent my lunch break trying out some gear... Slight review of the new Squires.

Took my lunch break and went to a music store to play and see where the tone leads me.

I started out on a Dean Palamino. Pretty cool little guitar. I didn't get as much time in on it as I would have liked. I saw some of the new Squires Teles and had to try one out.

Next item I played was a Squire Vintage Modified Tele. I have to say I was impressed. In my past experiences I've never played any Squires that felt all that good, but this little guy wasn't bad at all. It played just about like my MIM Tele. The pups were decent. It's only been on the shelf a week or so, but the Toggle switch was already messed up. No volume out of the neck mini humbucker. I think it would be a given that most anyone on this board would pull the pups from the get-go though.
The guitar was snappy and pretty responsive. I dialed in some pretty good slightly crunchy tones, and jammed out some blues on it.

All in all I was impressed. I wouldn't put it on my list of guitars to get, but I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up as an inexpensive back up.

That Dean looks cool for a semi-hollow, but I don't really dig the tailpiece. Those new Squier Tele's look pretty cool. I'm interested in checking one out. They have a HH model right?

It would cost double that just to put one together yourself.

Sweet deal! They have them way over priced here locally.

In the new Vintage Modified series, they have one tele with a humbucker neck and single coil bridge, and another tele with a mini humbucker in neck, and 2 single coils in bridge and middle.

i saw those teles.

my only question was, why would you want a single in the bridge and a humbucker in the neck?

astro, I've been wondering the exact same thing. Why the hell would you want a bucker in the neck? Or a single in the bridge?

The guitar would be great the other way, but that doesn't make any butt-loving sense. I guess it had to live up to the "Squier" brand somehow.
