Sperzel Locking Tuners

Are locking tuners worth it? Are they worth it on a tele(string through?)
Pros and cons, experiences etc., any help would be appreciated thanks.

Re: Sperzel Locking Tuners

I like Sperzels. They have no "backslap", and my strats with Sperzels are all very stable tuning wise.

I liked their regular tuners even better, but for some reason, I think they quit making them.

on a tele, though, I'm not sure locking tuners are really necessary ... a tele that's set up correctly is very stable tuning wise.

Yeah that's the thing, my tele doesn't really go out of tune once I stretch the strings. I'm quite quick at changing strings so speed doesn't really matter. I wouldn't have to drill anything because I already have single pin grovers on there, maybe I'll get some black grovers, to go with black tele? That'd be cheaper too

Thanks everyone.

Edit: I've only really seen Grover Rotomatics at the gutiar shop here, which I don't really like the look of on my tele. Does Grover sell single pin, non-locking, black, schaller style 6IL tuners?

Love Sperzel's!!! I have a Warmoth tele in mind for my next big project and locking tuners are going on it..... Even if it is a tele bridge i like those tuners and the ease of restringing.....

Re: Sperzel Locking Tuners

On a tele I prefer the vintage "ping" style tuners, but that's just me.

I don't know if Grover does, but Gotoh might - I know they make a Schaller style tuner, and my tech prefers them to Schallers, besides the fact that Schallers are sometimes hard to get.
You'll need to do a search at Allparts. Then if you find what you like, have a local Allparts dealer order them for you.

on an Old School 50s/ 60s style tele with a regular bridge I agree. On something like my recent US tele, the Fender Schallers are fine.
My next tele project will have a Bigsby, so I considered Sperzels, but opted for a newer Gotoh contoured mini, which look beautiful, IMO.
