I just got my TS9 back today, and my dad, as with all things, was skeptical. I opened up the pedal and compared it to some pics i shot of it before john had it modded and i was amazed. A bunch of capacitors and resistors were swapped out for the nice big orange drops! :32:
Well of course i was in a hurry to turn on my peavey classic and wait until the tubes heated up so i could step on the pedal and shred away. Before the mod, i found the Ts9 to lack tons of gain, and it could barely generate any grit at full drive with my peavey at low volume. I plugged in the Ts9, set it to a reasonable level, drive on full of course, and turned up the amp a bit.
I'm telling you, i feel like SRV pumping out blues licks, and i can't play worth a s%#!. The pedal really brings out the strat neck pickup tone like never before-the dark sound of the single coil shines through the Ts9. Pre-modded, the pedal generated metal-level distortion in conjunction with the power tubes with my amp turned up to standard jamming volume. Now i get that tone with the amp at bedroom volumes. I can't wait until saturday when i can really put the pedal to the test with my bandmates.
Thanks John, sorry about the lack of communication as I've been really busy with school; im getting swamped by a plethora of AP classes this year.
Another positive note about my pedal and my new setup-The strat>TS9>Peavey setup im running now (wanna be fender twin tones) has really changed the way i play and my taste in tone. John and Lew helped me choose the Surfers for my strat, and decide upon my pedal modded by the Seymour Duncan Forum 'PEDAL MOD KING' Stratdeluxer97.
This is, by far, the best pedal money can buy/then mod! Just too smooth.
