Split coils don't cut it vs real single coils

Real Strat single coils measure around 6K to 6.6K.

That might be why I like the split sound of my 12.7k Distortion neck so much. ;)

I agree that a split humbucker doesnt sound like a dedicated single coil.....but both the JB and Custom sound great split.

Swap the magnet for a Alnico-5 and you''d get the still not yet invented, but desired Jeff Beck Neck model. :cool3:

I'm just now switching out some Kent Armstrong PAFs for a PGb/APh-1n combo. The KA Hotrod (15k) in the bridge actually sounded pretty good split, but just didn't cut it tonewise all around.
Think I might try the parallel wiring on the new pickups. Anyone tried it already with either of these Duncan models?

This is why I love spin a split so much-I almost always keep some of the 2nd coil in the mix and it doesn't sound exactly like a single coil, but in many cases it actually sounds better- Plenty of cut but some low end as well.

Lewguitar, I agree 100% the JB is one of the best splitting hums out there- When I combine it with a cruiser (that is nearly rolled off) in the 2 position, I get superb quack-
