Split - neck or bridge?

I have a JB in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck.

All the schematics I have seen show the bridge pickup being split... why?

It seems to me, I would rather split the neck pickup... I'm thinking of the fat strat configuration with the humbucker in the bridge and the single in the neck.

What are the pros and cons for each option?

I currently have 2 Vols and 2 Tones - I want to convert one of the Tones to a spin-a-split and the other to a master tone. But which one?

I agree with you...the neck is the one that needs to be split for a cleaner more single coil like rythym tone. But it's nice to be able to split both...especially if you like to combine the neck and bridge pickup. Also, the JB gets a great tone split...also a great tone in parallel. Most push/pull mini pots have a DP/DT switch built in that will allow you to split both pickups at the same time, BTW. Lew

I always take those schematics to be a generic representation of how to do it. You can put the switch on either, or both, pups.

But I agree, that the neck sounds better split.

If I had to choose one or the other, I would pick neck as well. However, there are advantages to splitting both.
