Splitting Hotrails on Telecaster

Guys,

I am looking at installing a set of Hot Rails on my MIM telecaster. The wiring diagram on the site (http://www.seymourduncan.com/images/products/electric/telecaster/501015-115_RevD_web.pdf) is clear and that's great. On the second page of wiring diagram PDF shows how to use a push/pull potentiometer to split a Hot Rail pickup to get a single coil sound. Looking at the second page, I thought it'd be cool to wire up both Hot Rail pickups to the push/pull. Here's my question: Am I going to run into any gotcha's if I try to wire both Hot Rails to the push/pull? I've modified the wiring diagram from the site to demonstrate what I'm talking about.

Re: Splitting Hotrails on Telecaster

You should be able to. I have no problem splitting multiple pickups with one spin-a-split. I'd just think it'd be better to have the 2nd pair of red and white wires to be on the right-center terminal instead of the left-center terminal with the other pair of wires.

Welcome to the forum.

Your modified diagram is almost correct EXCEPT for where the red/white cable pairs go.

You have drawn both red/white cable pairs running to the same contact on the same pole of the switch. They should go to the middle contacts BUT one pair to each side of the switch. (Think of the push-pull DPDT as two SPDT switches.)

The only contacts that should be linked are the two closest to the pot casing. These both go to ground. It is easier to combine their connections.

Thanks guys,

That was exactly the kind of advice I was looking for.

It would be great if you could start a new thread instead of resurrecting one that very loosely relates to your request.

But that is a very cool looking guitar, I like the protective missile switch cover.
