Hey all,
just wanted to get some basic or any info on what splittin humbuckers does, how is it used, what kinds of mods does it require, etc.. Any feedback would be great.

Re: Splitting Humbuckers Any Info?

Basically it's done to use only one coil of the humbucker - to get a strat-esque sound. Instead of soldering the red and white wires together (on a SD pup), you would solder them to a switch that will either connect them and run the pup like a normal bucker or bypass the other coil.

Re: Splitting Humbuckers Any Info?

requires addition of a switch ... either a mini-toggle on/off type switch or a push/pull switch activated by a pot

there is good information on this in the FAQ or by doind a search

good luck

Re: Splitting Humbuckers Any Info?

Also, the benefit of splitting is somewhat dependent on the pickup and your setup. I love my Distortion split. I use it split more than full-on. My Custom 5, not so much. I didn't care for it split or parallel.

YMMV depending on your amp and guitar, and gear.

You'll need a four conductor wire -pickup and a switch for it. I use Push-pull -pots, like when I pull on my volume the pickup gets split and I can push it down to make it a regular humbucker again. It results in a bit different sound, almost like a single coil. You'll have to try it out to know if you like it or not! I prefer those push-pull -pots as I don't have to drill any extra holes on the guitar or have any more switches.
