Splitting inner coils instead outter ones

In a Tagima TG-652 standard (super strat-like), HSH, I've been using a JB and a '59 pups and I decided to install a push-push pot to split them. The schemes that I got guide to split outter coils, keeping inner ones active. But in this case, inner coils and the middle pup are too close and I don't see much difference with the tones with the middle pup when I change the selector position (1-2 or 4-5).

Does anyone have an experience with splitting inner coils and how they work in series in this phase?

I regularly split to inner coils but in parallel. It is a quacky sound that is a great alternative to the series humbucking sound. Comparing splitting inner vs outer coils, well, there is reason enough for both- they each have a slightly different quack to them (again, this is in parallel).

I typically wire coil splits to activate the slug (inner) coil in the bridge position and the screw (outer) coil in the neck position. In the bridge position the slug coil is louder and less bright than the screw coil, while the two coils sound much closer in the neck position. As an added bonus, the two active coils hum-cancel when used together.

Ditto. Good balance and none of that mag-swapping/reverse-wiring to get hum-cancelling. Works good, sounds great.
